The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 585

She had been violently abducted and locked inside some twisted, opulent fairy tale.

But living it, she realized this fairy tale was nothing like the stories.

The prince was a deranged psychopath, the servants were machines, and even the island breeze felt tainted with a sickening, twisted warmth.

She was desperate to escape, but every path was sealed shut. There was no way out.

"Baby, why are you crying?"

A soft, trembling kiss landed against her cheek as Lawrence's voice broke through her thoughts.

He crouched in front of her, framing her face with his large hands as he kissed away the tears she hadn't even realized were falling.

"Don't cry. What's wrong? Tell me what's hurting you, and I'll fix it, okay?"

Damaris sniffled, her eyes growing even redder. She looked at his breathtakingly handsome face. He had the features of a fallen angel, yet every single thing he did belonged to the devil.

She couldn't trust him.

His mood swings were too volatile.

One second he was fawning over her and calling her pet names, and the next, he could easily snap her neck and throw her corpse into the ocean just for saying the wrong thing.

She refused to die here.

She had to stay alive and make it back home!

Back to her family and friends!

"I just got some sand in my eye," Damaris lied, blinking rapidly.

"Let me blow on it."

Lawrence instantly leaned in, exhaling softly against her eye. But his face kept drifting closer and closer.

She felt a sickening wave of panic, entirely convinced he was about to lick her eyeball.

She jerked her head back in horror. "I'm fine!"

He was completely unhinged!

"The wind is picking up. You'll catch a cold if you stay out here. Let's head inside, baby. I had so many new dresses made for you. We should go try them on, alright?"

He phrased it as a question, but he wasn't offering a choice. He firmly pushed her back into the imposing estate.

The walk-in closet was massive, almost cavernous, lined with row upon row of brand-new, unworn dresses.

Dresses of every conceivable style and color.

Lawrence grabbed an elaborate, ruffled gown and held it against her. "Baby, you'd look absolutely gorgeous in this! Try it on for me, please?"

He asked nicely, but his hands were already reaching out to strip her.

He treated her like his own personal doll, dressing her up and claiming her whenever he pleased.

Damaris swatted his hands away. "I don't like dresses like this."

Lawrence paused, confused. "Why? It's beautiful."

"It might be beautiful, but I don't like it. I don't need a reason to dislike it. I just do," Damaris replied, throwing his own logic right back in his face.
