The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 689

Chapter 689

“Are you telling the truth?” she asked, her voice tight with desperate hope as her eyelashes fluttered frantically against the ice pack.

He kissed her ear, captivated by how incredibly adorable her earlobes were. Sucking on it for a moment, he finally replied, “As long as you behave.”

She went rigid. Gritting her teeth, she asked, “What do you want me to do?”

A spark of excitement flared in his blue eyes. “Tell me you love me.”

She bit her lip, debating for a tortured second, before deciding to just get it over with. She opened her mouth to comply.

But before the words could leave her tongue, he suddenly kissed her, swallowing her compliance entirely.

“Mmph…”

Confusion swirled in her mind.

What was his deal?

Did he not want to hear it after all?

After a long moment, he pulled away and whispered hoarsely, “Why don’t you take the initiative for once, baby?”

She gasped for air. “You’re changing the terms?!”

He pulled her close, pressing his cheek intimately against hers. “When you truly fall in love with me, you’ll say it on your own. I won’t need to ask.”

She scoffed inwardly. At least he’s self-aware.

But a profound despair settled over her as she considered his new demand.

The ice began to melt. He removed the pack and examined her face. “Perfect. The swelling is down. My baby is the most beautiful girl in the world again.”

She turned her face away, staring off into the distance. Sitting on the deck, the ocean breeze brushed against her skin, the air thick with the

scent of salt and sea.

Her hair whipped around her face. Instinctually, she patted her pockets, only to feel the smooth fabric of the skirt.

She wasn’t wearing pants, she didn’t have a bag, and she certainly didn’t have a phone to capture the scenery.

A profound loneliness washed over her features. She lowered her eyes, swallowed by a deep, crushing gloom.

Noticing her shift in mood, Lawrence pulled out his own phone. “Did you want to take a picture, baby? Let’s take one together.”

He wrapped an arm around her. The exact second she glanced up, he snapped a photo.

“My baby is gorgeous. Let’s use this one.” Adoring the picture, he tapped his screen a few times and immediately set it as his wallpaper.

She watched him, her brows knitting together in a subtle frown, before standing up and moving away.
