Chapter 696

Chapter 696

The hospital room fell into a heavy silence.

After a long pause, Madonna finally asked, “So, are you two not getting divorced anymore?”

Nathalie felt the large hand enveloping hers instinctively tighten. She glanced up at Lance, but his face remained perfectly stoic, betraying nothing.

“No,” Lance said.

Madonna let out a long, exhausted sigh and sank into a nearby chair. “If you’re not getting a divorce, then what was all that drama about? You turned both families completely upside down for nothing.”

Lance’s tone grew frigid. “I was the one who crossed the line. I wronged Nathalie. I made a mistake, and I’m naturally suffering the

consequences.”

Madonna stared at him, a whirlwind of conflicting emotions crossing her face. Realizing he couldn’t see her expression anyway, she hesitated before speaking. “Lance, actually…”

“Mom.”

Lance cut her off sharply. “You and Dad just got off a long flight, you have to be exhausted. Go check into a nearby hotel and get some rest. Dr. Lane said I’ll be discharged soon anyway.”

Madonna pursed her lips tightly. “Fine.”

She turned to Carl. “Let’s head to the hotel first.”

Carl scowled, clearly wanting to rip into Lance further, but Madonna grabbed his arm and practically dragged him out of the room,

Once they stepped outside the hospital, she couldn’t hold back. “Didn’t we agree in the car? If you wanted to lecture him, you would keep your

mouth shut! The second you see him, you lose your temper!”

Carl stared blankly at the bustling city streets, a flash of profound grief passing through his eyes. “The second the plane touched the tarmac, I thought of Jackson. Whenever I flew back from overseas, he was always the one waiting for me at arrivals.”

His voice cracked, growing harsh. “Once we got in the car, he would update me on the family, tell me how things were running at the

corporation…”

Madonna felt a horrible ache in her chest. She wiped a stray tear. “Carl,

it’s been four years. We have to let it go. We have to keep moving

forward.”

Carl took a deep, shuddering breath. “Let’s just head straight back to

Cabinda. I want to visit Jackson’s grave.”

Madonna paused, then shook her head. “You go on ahead. I’m staying here to look after Lance. I’ll fly back with him when he’s discharged.”

“Fine.”

Carl didn’t argue. He got into a waiting car and ordered the driver to head back to the airport.

“Nathalie.”

Lance turned his head in her direction, his voice dropping low. “Don’t tell them we’re still planning to divorce yet. Okay?”

A self-deprecating smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. “Besides, you promised that if my eyes didn’t heal, you’d stay by my side forever. Right?”

Suddenly, he gasped, rubbing his arm. His tone turned playfully resentful. “Nathalie, you pinched me.
