The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 72

Fabian turned away and started drinking with Lance.

On Lance’s other side was Bagot, and next to Bagot sat an absolutely gorgeous woman.

Out of nowhere, the woman leaned toward Bagot, which made him jump and scoot away, accidentally bumping right into Lance.

Lance’s drink hadn’t even made it to his lips before it splashed all over his shirt.

“Lance, I’m so sorry! It wasn’t on purpose!” Bagot rushed to apologize, then turned to the woman. “Seriously, what’s with you? Haven’t had a single drink and you’re already tipsy?”

The woman gave him a shy look, her cheeks a little pink. “Bagot, can I add you on WeChat?”

Bagot just stared, totally lost for words.

Lance’s shirt was soaked, sticking awkwardly to his chest. He looked a little helpless.

Someone nearby spoke up, “There’s a hairdryer in the bathroom. Go dry off. Wearing wet clothes is miserable.”

Lance frowned, feeling the discomfort settle in, and headed for the restroom.

Just as he got there, Felice stepped out. She noticed the mess on his shirt and quietly slipped back inside with him.

She pulled out a tissue and started dabbing at his shirt. “What happened?”

Lance stopped her by holding her hand. “Felice, I’ve got it. Leave it to me.”

Felice froze, hand mid-air. Looking up at his sharp, handsome face, she gripped the tissue tightly and said softly, “I’m sorry.”

Lance gave her a puzzled look. “What did you say?”

Felice bit her lip, unsure for a second, then spoke. “It’s about before. I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions or misunderstood Nathalie. It was my fault. I really want to apologize, but she doesn’t want to see me. Lance, could you help out?”

Lance’s voice was cool. “Well, if you know you were wrong, stop trying to get close to her.”

Felice shook her head. “But she’s my sister. We can’t go on like this forever. You’re stuck in the middle. My parents are, too. It’s been years since we all had a family dinner. My parents miss Nathalie so much.”

She clung to the doorframe as she prepared to leave, lingering in the hallway. “Nathalie, I’m heading out. Try not to miss me too much, alone in this quiet place.”

Nathalie played along, rolling her eyes in exaggerated sorrow. “No, don’t go! I’ll miss you so much!”

Damaris couldn’t keep a straight face. She pulled a dramatic frown, shook her head, and left with a laugh.

Nathalie smiled helplessly and closed the door.

Not even a minute passed before there was another knock. She figured Damaris must’ve forgotten something.

“Did you forget something?” she called out as she opened the door, but it wasn't Damaris.

It was Lance.

The smile disappeared from Nathalie’s face instantly, and she moved to close the door.

Lance didn’t let her. He blocked the door with his arm, stepped right in, wrapped her up by the waist, and pressed her against the entryway cabinet.
