Chapter 728
She grabbed the hairdryer and switched it on. Over the low hum of the motor, he suddenly reached out and wrapped his arms securely around her waist.
Nathalie stiffened but didn’t push him away, simply continuing to dry his hair.
His hair was short and dried quickly. Once she clicked the dryer off, she noticed he had no intention of letting go, so she gave his shoulder a gentle nudge.
I’m going to the cemetery tomorrow,” Lance said quietly.
Nathalie blinked. She traced a question mark lightly against his shoulder.
What for?
To apologize to my brother.”
His voice was rough with unshed emotion.
Nathalie’s heart gave a painful squeeze. After a long moment, she simply tapped his arm in acknowledgment.
They climbed into bed, lying side by side. The room was pitch black and utterly silent, completely devoid of any romantic tension. Neither of them could sleep.
Nathalie tossed and turned, fully aware that Lance was staring sightlessly into the dark right
beside her.
The next morning, he told Madonna his plan.
She looked startled for a second before nodding emphatically. “I’m going with you.”
She turned to Nathalie. “Could you watch Jasper for a bit?”
Before Nathalie could nod, Jasper piped up proudly. “I’m going to take care of Auntie!”
Madonna forced a warm smile and ruffled his hair. “You’re such a good boy, Jasper.”
“Don’t worry about them, you two go,” Elara chimed in. “I’ll keep an eye on things here.”
“Thank you, Ellie,” Madonna said gratefully.
Elara waved it off. “Nathalie’s my friend. It’s what friends do.”
After Lance and Madonna left, the elderly matriarch took Nathalie’s hand, her expression deeply concerned. “Nathalie, what happened? Something’s wrong.”
The older woman hadn’t been in the room when Jasper confessed everything the day before.
Nathalle guided her back to her room, typed out a thorough explanation, and let the robotic voice relay the horrors Jasper had described.

Chapter 728
“Dear God…”
The elderly woman clutched her chest, her face ashen. “That is purely evil. How could a mother do such things?”
Then, she squeezed Nathalie’s hand, her voice trembling. “Oh, you poor dear. No wonder y suffered so much. How could you ever compete with someone that manipulative? She’s utterly ruthless. You’ve been through absolute hell all these years.”
A rush of warmth flooded Nathalie’s chest. She leaned her head against the older womans shoulder, soaking in the genuine comfort.
“I just don’t understand,” the older woman sighed heavily. “I met Felice when she was just girl. How did she turn into such a monster?”
Some people were simply rotten to the core. Felice’s mind was wired for malice, making h impossible to defend against.
But it was Nathalie whom the older woman grieved for the most.
