The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 738

Chapter 738

Freddy sat across from her, his gaze warm and startlingly sincere. There wasn’t an ounce of pressure or sharp edges to his words, instantly easing the nervous tension coiled tight in Nathalie’s chest.

She pressed her lips together and looked down at her screen. A moment later, the

mechanical voice filled the air. “My life is far too chaotic and complicated right now. Getting

too close to me is only going to drag you into my mess.”

Freddy paused, considering her words. “You mean like what happened to Sophia getting locked in that building?”

Nathalie nodded grimly.

“I have to admit, that was quite the headache,” Freddy noted.

Nathalie felt a flicker of relief. If he was smart enough to back off now, it would be for the

best.

“But here’s the thing about me,” Freddy continued smoothly, completely flipping the script. “I’ve lived abroad for so long that I’ve developed a taste for adrenaline. I absolutely love a good challenge. Honestly, I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing exactly what kind of ‘danger and trouble’ you bring to the table.”

Nathalie stared at him, utterly dumbfounded. She had absolutely no idea how to respond to

that.

Freddy’s expression softened further. “Nathalie, I know what Olivia did was horrific. I fully understand why you’d want to distance yourself from me and keep your guard up. But I promise you, I’ve already handled it. Olivia is completely dealt with, and she will never show her face to you again. I am not here to bring you trouble or stress. Lately, I find myself constantly thinking about the times we used to just hang out as friends. Can you please just lower your walls around me?”

His sincerity was a physical weight, pressing against her resolve until she found it impossible to say no. It felt as though rejecting him now would be needlessly cruel, especially when she could practically see the potential hurt pooling in his eyes.

The internal tug-of-war left Nathalie feeling incredibly conflicted.

Add to that the fact that Freddy had just pulled strings to get a medical specialist to examine her, shutting him down now would make her seem cold and completely ungrateful.

She lowered her eyes and tapped at her screen. The robotic voice answered, “Then accept the transfer.”

Freddy’s face instantly lit up with a brilliant smile. Right in front of her, he tapped the screen to accept the money. “The signature dishes here are phenomenal. Since you’re on a strict

herbal regimen, do you have any dietary restrictions?”

“Let me ask my doctor,” she typed.

“Take your time.”

Elara quickly fired back a massive list of forbidden foods, which Nathalie promptly forwarded to Freddy.

Scanning the list, Freddy nodded. “Perfect. There are a few dishes here that fit these exact

requirements.”

He flagged down the waiter and placed the order.

Over the course of the meal, the lingering awkwardness between them dissolved completel By the time they walked out of the restaurant, Freddy was already shifting gears. “Let’s swing by the pharmacy and pick up those herbs Dr. Adler prescribed. Once you’re home, you can have your doctor double-check them just to be safe.”

Nathalie nodded in agreement.

When they finally pulled up to Lumina Grand, Freddy stepped out of the car with her, handing over the bags of medicine. “Get some rest,” he said softly. “Don’t overthink things. Your voice is going to come back; I know it.”

Nathalie nodded and quickly typed a response. “Get home safely. Thank you for everything today.”

Freddy sighed helplessly. “Stop being so formal. You’re acting like we’re strangers.”

Nathalie’s thumbs hovered over the keyboard to type another reply, but before she could, Aaron practically materialized beside them.

“Mrs. Adams, you’re back,” Aaron said, his voice laced with urgency. “Mr. Adams is… he’s in really bad shape right now.”

Nathalie whipped her head around, her eyes wide with alarm.
