Chapter 748
Chapter 748
Nicol drove Adelaide to the cemetery. It was a private funeral with barely any attendees. Adelaide stood beneath a black umbrella, her tears falling
in total silence.
Snow began to drift down from the gray sky. Once the burial concluded, they left the cemetery and headed for the car.
Nicol stayed close to Adelaide’s side. Just as he was about to open the car door, his gaze caught movement in the distance. Beneath another
black umbrella stood a familiar face.
“Is something wrong?”
Noticing his sudden pause, Adelaide looked at him questioningly.
“Nothing at all. Come on, let’s get you home.” Nicol quickly pulled his gaze back and shook his head.
No one is made of stone. How could he just stand by and watch?
Nicol shook his head, let out a quiet sigh, got into the driver’s seat, and
drove off.
Meanwhile, Nathalie was sitting inside a warm coffee shop, the rich aroma of roasted espresso filling every corner and chasing away the
winter chill.
Freddy watched her with open concern. “Nathalie, are you holding up okay?”
Nathalie offered a faint smile and nodded.
Freddy’s eyes remained soft. “But you don’t look okay. If you need to vent, I’m right here. I can stay with you as long as you need.”
Nathalie was slightly taken aback, her long lashes fluttering. She stared down at her coffee cup before picking up her phone to type. The robotic voice filled the silence between them.

“I really am fine. You don’t need to worry about me. But what were you doing near the cemetery? Aren’t you busy today?”
Freddy held her gaze steadily. “I was actually waiting for you.”
Nathalie paused.
Freddy continued, “I heard about your mother. Even though things were awful between you, I figured with your personality, you might still show up to say a final goodbye. So, I took a gamble and waited to see if you’d come. Looks like I won.”
He flashed a charming smile. “I know you pretty well, don’t I?”
A flicker of confusion crossed Nathalie’s clear eyes. Seeing how unapologetic and direct he was being, it finally clicked-he was openly flirting with her.
Nathalie gripped her phone, hesitating for a moment before typing.
‘Freddy, thank you for checking on me. But I’m completely at peace with i
10w.”
Freddy nodded. “That’s good.”
She took a sip of her coffee, the bold flavor blooming on her tongue. She set the cup down and looked at him seriously.
Sensing what she was about to say, Freddy smoothly cut her off. “Don’t gc bulling away from me now. You’re gorgeous and incredible-it’s only natural for guys to fall for you. I know you’re still technically married, but as long as you don’t change your mind, that divorce is going to happen eventually. I’m just calling dibs early.”
He chuckled effortlessly. “Saves me from dealing with a waitlist.”
