Chapter 779
The maid was teft completely speechless. She just couldn’t understand it. The boss spoiled this woman rotten, giving her the absolute best of everything, yet nothing was ever enough. She fought him at every turn and willingly volunteered for the filthiest chores. Clearly, some people just weren’t meant for a life of luxury.
Keeping her judgmental thoughts strictly to herself, the maid maintained a respectful bow and quickly exited the room, deciding it wasn’t worth the headache.
After finishing the litter box, Damaris scrubbed her hands thoroughly. She refilled the food and water bowls, then scooped Mimi up to trim her tiny claws. The kitten was an absolute angel, sitting perfectly still and purring up a storm the entire time.
A genuine smile lingered on Damaris’s lips as she stroked the adorable little creature, feeling like she finally had something to look forward to.
After a quick breakfast, she headed outside for a stroll through the lavish gardens. Almost instinctively, her eyes locked onto that dense, shadowy
cluster of trees.
What kind of twisted secret was he hiding back there?
She headed down the cobblestone path again, but this time, a line of ourly bodyguards blocked her way.
‘Apologies, Ms. White, but you cannot proceed,” one of the guards stated grimly. “The boss gave strict orders. If you insist on trespassing, we’ve been authorized to physically escort you back to your bedroom and lock
the door.”
Damaris’s face fell instantly.
She knew it! There was definitely a secret out there.
And a massive one, at that!

There was no other reason they’d be guarding it like Fort Knox.
Staring at the distant trees, her curiosity peaked. She had to know what was in there, which meant she needed a serious diversion.
Playing it smart, Damaris turned on her heel and walked away. The guards let out a collective sigh of relief.
Did she really think they wanted to manhandle the boss’s woman?
They’d lose their heads just for bruising her arm!
It was an empty threat to scare her off, and thankfully, it had worked.
Back inside, Damaris absentmindedly played with Mimi while her brain worked into overdrive, plotting a way past that blockade.
Her gaze accidentally brushed past the massive stone fireplace, and a wild idea ignited in her eyes.
Night quickly fell over the island. The towering mansion was lit up brilliantly against the dark sky, looking like a flawless, picturesque fairy
tale.
Up in her bedroom, Damaris deadbolted the heavy oak door. She dragged down the curtains, tore off the bedsheets, and piled her expensive clothes into a massive heap on the floor. Without hesitating, she grabbed a lighter and set the whole thing ablaze.
The flames caught fast, licking up the fabric and spreading rapidly across the highly flammable Persian rug. She stood back, watching the fire bloom with an adrenaline-fueled gleam in her eyes.
Quickly, she pulled on a stolen maid’s uniform she’d hidden earlier, messed up her hair to look frantic, and crouched down in a dark corner of the room.
As the blaze roared higher, the thick smoke triggered the alarms. A deafening, piercing siren began blaring throughout the entire estate.
