The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 82

Madonna’s voice turned icy. “I’ll find out what’s going on right now.” She ended the call without another word.

Nathalie stared at her phone for a second, then let out a quiet, sarcastic laugh.

Really, what else could it be? Of course Lance had covered for Felice. How could he not? She rolled her eyes. Honestly, he was so committed to Felice, he wouldn’t even listen to his own mother.

But the way she spun her phone slowed down, and the sly smile disappeared from her face. With a sigh, she tossed the phone aside and picked up her script again, trying to force her focus back onto work.

Madonna called her son right away, skipping any pleasantries. “Where are you? Come home. Now.”

“I’m at the hospital with your grandson,” Lance answered, sounding unbothered.

Madonna’s eyebrow twitched. “Jasper has nannies and caregivers. Stop spending so much time over there. Come home, I need to talk to you.”

“Alright.”

Lance’s voice was cool, almost bored. After hanging up, he gently handed a building block to Jasper. “Here, play with this for a while. I need to go.”

Jasper grabbed his hand, his eyes wide and worried. “Do you have to leave, Lance?”

“I really do. Something came up.” Lance knew Jasper depended on him. After all, he’d basically raised the kid from the start, so it made sense.

“You’re a big boy now, Jasper. You can play on your own, right?” Lance ruffled his hair, offering a little encouragement.

Jasper nodded, even though he looked a bit crushed. “Okay.”

Lance stood, gave him a quick smile, and walked out.

A little while later, Felice walked into the hospital room. She looked around, immediately realizing Lance was gone. “Where’s Lance?” she asked Jasper.

Madonna let out a harsh laugh. “It’s only good for her if she thinks it is. I’m telling you, don’t let Felice show up for work tomorrow. Unless you want Nathalie to start talking divorce again.”

A wave of annoyance washed over Lance. He ran a hand over his collar, jaw clenching. “Mom, what exactly did you say to her?”

Madonna scrunched her eyebrows. “What do you mean?”

Lance’s frustration built. “If she agreed not to leave me, doesn’t that mean we patched things up? So why is she still so distant with me?”

Madonna fixed him with a knowing look. “I only convinced her not to divorce you. But you keep making things difficult, so what am I supposed to do?”

Lance fell silent, running a hand through his hair.

“So everyone really thinks there’s something going on between me and Felice?”
