The Vengeful Warrior Luna's Return novel Chapter 18

Astra’s POV

After handing over control of the pack’s affairs, I shut myself in my room. Besides the kin who came with me from Pack Hale, I didn’t want to see a single wolf from Pack Zane.

I called back every skilled artisan I had brought along.

Unsurprisingly, without them, Pack Zane fell into chaos.

Agnes could only promote some low-ranking wolves to fill in as best as they could, barely holding onto a shred of order.

But with Kieran and Isla’s bonding ceremony looming, those temporary replacements just wouldn’t cut it.

Plus, the folks I hired to tan hides and forge silverware had long since been sent back by Bekkie and the others. Now, the wolves running the households couldn’t even groom the furs properly.

When Agnes reported this to Lady Mora, I could hear the old woman’s sharp roar through the tent curtain:

“Blind! When have I ever let her suffer? And now look at how she’s humiliating Pack Zane!”

Agnes's voice was low, probably trying to calm her down, but I caught bits of it:

“Mother, when Astra first arrived, she brought three silver mines, managed the household, personally prepared your herbal medicines...”

“That was just to win Kieran’s favor!” Lady Mora’s voice cracked higher. “Now that she can’t keep the pack together, she’s tearing it apart!”

After a moment, I heard Agnes’s resigned reply from outside:

“But now the coffers are empty. We can’t afford to hire anyone else.”

“Then send Haliey to talk to her!” Lady Mora snapped, no room for argument. “Haliey’s always had a good relationship with her. Have her lend us those kin from her dowry again!”

Bekkie stormed in, furious,

“When the pack was broke before, you let her use Pack Hale’s money. But no one ever talked about selling the shops then!”

I smiled coolly.

“That’s not the same. She’s banking on Isla and Kieran making a name on the battlefield. When that happens, it won’t just be two shops—they’ll be buying twenty silver mines.”

But later that night, news came that Lady Mora had fallen ill again. Without Doctor Danelle’s medicine, her chest pain was so bad she couldn’t even hold her wolf form.

Honestly, hearing this, I felt a flicker of pity for them.

“If we can part on good terms, I’ll put in a word with Doctor Danelle. She can keep treating Lady Mora. But I’m done footing the bill. If they want the medicine, they can pay for it by themselves.”
