Chapter 433 Side Story: The Rescue Mission (Part Three)
Gamble. It was his last chance.
The rest of them, facing death anyway, swallowed their own pills in waves.
The medic waited to see what would happen. An hour later, every single soldier who had taken the pill had returned to normal.
Only then did the medic understand. The pill actually worked.
It was nothing short of a miracle.
He hadn’t realized there was anyone in the military community capable of something at this level.
Who exactly was this woman?
A doctor with talent that extraordinary?
You could count the doctors in the world above his own level on one hand.
He’d underestimated her.
If he could get his hands on the formula, it would be a huge breakthrough for all his research.
He was reasonably confident in his own standing in the field. But even if you gave him years, he could never produce an antidote to a pathogen like this on his own.
When this was over, he was going to find this soldier and learn how she’d done it.
There really was always someone better. There was always someone faster and smarter out there.
He’d been arrogant.
The rest of the soldiers recovered one after another.
Even the first one, whose symptoms had been the worst, had been fully detoxed.
His breathing was steady.
Larissa said a few quiet words to Wesley, then led her squad out at speed, moving low and fast toward the research facility.
They moved carefully along the way, slipping past the terrorist patrols.
Just as they were closing in on the facility, a group of terrorists spotted them.
The firefight broke out instantly. Larissa calmly directed her squad’s return fire while looking for an opening to keep moving forward.
Using her reflexes and her read of the situation, she threaded them through every trap and reached the facility
At the same time, the International Federation troops Wesley was leading were locked in a vicious fight with the terrorists on the outer ring,

Bullets cut through the air Smoke hung everywhere. Every person out there was pushing their body to the limit for the mission and for each other.
Every one of them held onto the same single belief. Finish the mission. Get home alive.
Larissa seized a break in the fighting, found her opening, and broke her squad through the terrorists’ line, slipping into the research facility
The inside was full of traps. Every step came with a held breath.
Then, the alarm went off, and a wave of heavily armed hostiles poured out from every direction.
Larissa had her squad in a combat formation in seconds, and a brutal close-quarters fight erupted inside the facility.
Outsice, Wesley was dealing with his own escalating problem. The terrorists’ firepower was coming in relentlessly, and the Federation’s troops were briefly pinned down.
In the middle of all of it, Larissa found the room where the researchers were being held. The researchers themselves were wired to a large explosive device.
Under every stunned look in the squad, Larissa defused the bomb with clean, easy movements, cutting it free at the last possible second and getting the researchers clear.
Every single person in that room was speechless.
Terry, once again, was floored by her.
She was strong. So much stronger than he was.
To think he was the one who actually went after her in the beginning.
Everything he’d ever done to mess with her had been child’s play.
With skills like hers, if she’d actually wanted him dead, he’d have been dead a long time ago.
The look in Terry’s eyes as he watched her was a tangle of things that couldn’t be named.
Larissa finished the mission cleanly. She was in the first group back to the plane with every member of her squad in tow.
