Chapter 49 The Bad Memory and the Bet
Finished
The car had been hit so hard that it flipped over and was crushed beyond recognition. Wesley and his mother were trapped inside. His whole body was covered in his mother’s blood.
He screamed for help, helpless and afraid.
Then a pair of black leather shoes stopped in front of the wreck. Someone was holding a lighter in their hand.
Larissa was fully focused on the treatment when Wesley’s body suddenly started to shake.
He murmured in a low, broken voice, “Mom… don’t…”
Larissa froze. She realized he had fallen into a painful memory.
In Wesley’s dream, the person holding the lighter was about to set it on fire. The flames reflected on his terrified face.
Larissa took a deep breath and forced herself to stay calm. She focused all her attention and finally pulled him out of the nightmare.
Wesley suddenly opened his eyes and gasped for air. Sweat covered his forehead.
His eyes were full of fear and confusion, as if he still hadn’t escaped the nightmare.
His body trembled slightly. He tried to remember what he had just seen, but his mind was blank.
Larissa looked at him with concern. She had never seen him this vulnerable before. What had he been through?
It must have been unbearable.
She asked softly, “Are you okay?”
It took Wesley a long time to come back to his senses.
He grabbed Larissa’s hand tightly and said hoarsely, “I’m fine. It’s just a bad dream.”
His eyes rested on her face, showing a hint of gratitude and trust.
After ten years, he had dreamed of his mother again.
That car crash he could never escape from.
Larissa gently patted his hand and said calmly, “Don’t be afraid. It was only a dream. You’re safe now.”
Wesley nodded and tried to steady himself.
The fear from the dream lingered, but Larissa’s presence and treatment made him feel at ease.
He took a deep breath and said slowly, “Thank you, Wonder Doctor. Without you, I don’t know if I would

have woken up.”

Larissa smiled. “You don’t have to thank me. It’s my job. How do you feel now? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?”
Wesley shook his head. “I feel much better. Just a little tired. I want to rest.”
Larissa adjusted his pillow so he could lie more comfortably.
Before leaving, she lit a calming incense and said softly, “Sleep. You’ll feel better when you wake up.”
She sat quietly by the bed until he fell into a deep sleep again.
Only after he was fully asleep did Larissa leave.
Oscar had already arranged a driver to take her home.
But Larissa refused.
She didn’t want anyone to know her real identity.
As for Russ, he was completely forgotten.
The next day, Larissa appeared at school.
After three days of midterm exams, the results were being released today.
Everyone at school knew about the bet between Larissa and the parents.
