Chapter 9 School Acceptance Letter

Larissa still wanted to refuse, but when she met their eyes, she couldn’t bring herself to say no.
In the end, she put all those precious things into the cabinet.
After taking a shower, she finally started unpacking the stack of gifts piled neatly in the corner.
From when she was five to seventech, they had prepared gifts for her every year.
There were pieces of jewelry, shoes, clothes, paintbrushes, models, and dolls.
Each gift had a card with a name on it, all filled with love from her family.
This was the kind of care she had never received after she turned ten in the Turners.
After she turned ten in the Turners, Julia’s arrival had been the start of her nightmare.
Whenever Julia got hurt, it was always blamed on her.
Even when she did nothing, everyone assumed she was the cruel one.
In her past life, she had always longed for even a little love from the Turners.
She hadn’t even thought about finding her real family, even up to the day she died.
In this new life, she didn’t want the Turners. She had found her real family.
Their care for her felt genuine.
Just as Larissa finished organizing the gifts, there was a knock at the door.
“Larissa, can I come in?”
She opened the door and politely called out, “Mom.”
Ruby handed her some papers. “Larissa, this is your acceptance letter for Marcrest High. Tomorrow, Nelson will take you to school.”
Larissa took the papers in surprise. She hadn’t expected the Sowles to move so fast.
Marcrest High was the best school in Marcrest.
When she had returned to the Turners for six months, they had always assumed she hadn’t even gone to middle school, so they never let her continue her studies.
For the five years she had missed, they felt no guilt at all. Instead, they treated her even worse, looked down on her, and put her down.
She still remembered what they had said back then.
“Larissa, you’re uneducated. You didn’t even go to middle school. How do you expect to go to high school?”

“Just stay home and behave. It’s not like we can’t afford to feed you. As our family’s daughter, you’ll never have to worry about money or food your whole life.”
“Larissa, stop acting out. You have no talent, no virtue, and you didn’t even graduate middle school. Are you planning to embarrass yourself and shame us?”
“You’re not as good as your brothers or Julia. Not going to school won’t make a difference.”
So during that half year, the Turners didn’t enroll her in any school. She stayed home doing chores. If she needed money, she had to earn it herself.
Who would have guessed that as the Turners‘ daughter, she wouldn’t get a penny for living expenses?
Even at home, when no other family member was around, the servants treated her differently. They knew she wasn’t favored, so they wouldn’t bother preparing food for her.
“Mom, aren’t you worried I’ll embarrass the family?”
Larissa looked at the papers in her hand with a complicated expression and couldn’t help asking.
Were they thinking the same way the Turners had?
If that were the case, she would rather not go to school.
Because she knew she could get in on her own merit.
The Turners only knew she had spent five years at Ravenmind Island and hadn’t gone to middle school. They had no idea what she had gone through during those five years.
Although it had been a nightmare, every skill she had learned there came from the opportunities she found in that harsh place.
The only reason she was willing to go to high school now was that she wanted to get into a top school and become someone untouchable.
In her past life, she hadn’t cared about fame or power.
But now, she wanted to hold it all in her own hands.
Being reborn, she knew clearly that the only person she could rely on was herself.
Ruby wanted to get close to her daughter, but she could see the resistance in Larissa’s eyes.
She had sent people to investigate everything that had happened to Larissa over the years. But seeing how small and guarded Larissa was, it was clear that she had never had an easy life.
It broke Ruby’s heart.
Who knew that doing something so small would move her daughter this much?

Larissa was content so easily.
She needed to give Larissa more sense of safety, or else she wouldn’t have said things like that.

Ruby held Larissa’s hand and spoke earnestly, “Larissa, you are my precious daughter. You are the Sowles‘ daughter who was lost for over ten years.
“No matter what you do, I will always support you!
“We are your family, and that will never change.”
The next morning, after breakfast, Larissa slung on her new backpack and got into Nelson’s car.
Nelson handed her a bottle of milk and affectionately patted her shoulder.
“Drink more milk so you can grow taller. You’re so skinny. Someone might try to pick on you.”
Larissa froze. It had been a long time since anyone had shown her such affection.
But somehow, she didn’t feel uncomfortable at all.
Nelson continued, “Don’t be nervous about going to school, Larissa. It’s okay if your grades aren’t perfect. We have your back.
“As long as you don’t go out of your way to hurt anyone, we’ll always support you.
