The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 146

Quentin led her to a secluded corner sofa so she could rest. "How are you feeling? Do you want to head back?"

"No..." Chloe shook her head. "I'm fine. We have a job to do."

She was here to interpret for Quentin's business deals tonight.

More importantly, she still hadn't met the person he brought her here to see. She couldn't leave.

Seeing her determination, Quentin didn't argue. He brought her a glass of juice and some food, sitting quietly beside her while she recovered.

Chloe was just closing her eyes to rest when a group of infuriatingly familiar figures approached.

Several people sat down on the adjacent sofas and began talking loudly.

"I heard the Shaw family's only son returned from abroad for Mrs. Shaw's birthday tonight."

"The prince of the Shaw empire! Half the room would kill for an introduction. Too bad a guy like that isn't easy to meet. Security is probably going to clear the room and check everyone's credentials before he makes his grand entrance."

Jenna laughed. "Really? They do that? Imagine getting thrown out of a party like this. How embarrassing."

She waved a hand dismissively. "Whatever, let's not worry about other people! I'm so excited. I really hope we can lock in the partnership tonight!"

Mason chimed in, chuckling. "It's been forever since we tackled a deal together. It feels exactly like the old days. We're still us. Thank God nothing has changed!"

Wyatt Davis nodded nostalgically. "It's so good to have you back, Jenna."

Jenna's eyes curved into a sweet smile as she clung tightly to Preston's arm. She looked up at him. "Right, Preston?"

Preston offered a noncommittal hum, his gaze dark and distant.

Mason and Wyatt followed his stare and finally noticed the woman sitting on the adjacent sofa. It was Chloe. Both men froze in shock.

"What is she doing here?"

They had arrived late and missed the earlier drama, so seeing Chloe here completely baffled them.

"Why did she come? Did she stalk Preston here?"

"Oh, God. The media thinks Jenna and Preston are the real couple right now. If someone asks who Chloe is, how are we supposed to explain her? She is such a liability!"

It was the same woman from the corridor—the one who had called her "vulgar and rude!"

Panic flashed across Jenna's face. She stiffened and forced out, "Happy Birthday, Mrs. Shaw..."

Mrs. Shaw gave her a passing, indifferent glance, her eyes locking onto the ruby ring on Jenna's hand.

"A piece by Mr. Sylvain, I presume?"

Jenna blinked, instantly flattered. "Yes! You have an incredible eye, Mrs. Shaw!"

She shot Chloe a smug, sideways glare, suddenly feeling invincible again.

So what if Mrs. Shaw didn't like her earlier? Now that she knew Jenna was with Preston, she still had to show her respect.

A second later, Mrs. Shaw smiled—a smile laced with profound amusement.

"I remember when Mr. Sylvain acquired a flawless, natural Cardinal Ruby. He used the primary stone to design a masterpiece necklace, and then used the leftover fragments to fashion a single ring."
