As the three of them shoved their way inside, Mrs. Rowan took the opportunity to forcefully shove Chloe.
Just as Chloe lost her balance and nearly fell, a strong arm caught her firmly from behind.
"Mr. Hayes."
The moment Mr. Rowan recognized the man, a wide smile stretched across his face, and he bowed respectfully.
"I brought my daughter here specifically to pay you a visit."
He reached into his briefcase to pull out some documents.
Mrs. Rowan and Penelope also chimed in with polite greetings.
But Preston completely ignored them. His dark eyes remained fixed on Chloe.
"Are you okay?"
His face was completely blank, but Chloe knew him well enough to realize he was furious.
She pushed his arm away without looking at him. "I'll let you entertain your guests."
She turned to leave.
The next second, a warm hand clamped around her wrist. With a firm tug, she was pulled unceremoniously against his solid, warm chest.
Before she could fight back, he was already steering her toward the living room sofa.
"Have a seat."
"Thank you, Mr. Hayes," Mr. Rowan practically tripped over himself to comply.
He glanced at the woman securely tucked in Preston's arms, frowning as he shot his daughter a look of sheer disbelief.
Penelope, however, fired back a confident look.
The whole internet had been blowing up lately; everyone knew Preston's one true love was Jenna Cameron.
As for Chloe? Outside of a few elite families who had attended the wedding years ago, nobody in Sterling Bay even knew she was Preston's wife.
Besides, Jenna had assured her that Preston was about to divorce her anyway. Once she was kicked out of the elite circle, she would be nothing.
Pushing his doubts aside, Mr. Rowan hurried into the living room.
He was just about to sit down when Preston's dark gaze swept over him. "You're here awfully early, Mr. Rowan."
A tidal wave of anger and disgust peaked in her chest.
Unable to take it anymore, she shoved him hard. "Let go!"
Keeping his arm wrapped around her, Preston raised an eyebrow and said mildly, "My apologies, Mr. Rowan. It seems my wife isn't ready to forgive you."
He snapped the folder shut and tossed it onto the coffee table.
Mr. Rowan's expression soured. "Ms. Reed, what exactly do you want?"
Mrs. Rowan and Penelope glared at her.
Chloe fought to swallow her fury.
Even Preston was looking at her, acting like he was waiting for her demands.
He was reaping the profits, yet dumping the conflict on her!
It was chilling. It was laughable.
"What do I want?"
