The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 20

The suited man and his lackey had tailed her car the entire way back the previous night, only to be stopped at the security gates of The Crestwood Estates. Staring at the outrageously wealthy neighborhood, their greed and malicious intent completely obliterated any remaining sense of reason. Besides, they had Mr. Hayes backing them. They had absolutely nothing to fear!

Chloe thrashed wildly, but the chemical soaked into the cloth hit her system fast. Her limbs quickly turned to jelly until she couldn't even summon the strength to raise her arms.

Desperate, she tried to negotiate. "Let me go. If you stop right now, I'll pay you. I won't even call the cops..."

But the man in the suit was far past listening. His eyes raked over Chloe's body in the dim light. A twisted, sudden heat surged through him, making his breathing ragged. He hadn't realized earlier just how stunningly beautiful this woman was.

"Dressed like that and sneaking into an estate... you're some rich guy's mistress, aren't you?" His gaze was vile, his tone dripping with filth. "For a slut like you, spreading your legs is just business, right? Come on, gorgeous, treat me like your sugar daddy. Make me feel good, and I'll pay you just the same..."

A sickening wave of revulsion hit Chloe. She snapped, glaring at him with pure hatred. "Get off me! If you touch me, I swear to God I'll kill you!"

Completely consumed by lust, the man let out a sick sneer. "If you want someone to blame, blame Mr. Hayes. We're just on the payroll." With that, he reached out to grope her.

Chloe bit down hard on her tongue, praying the sharp pain would shock her paralyzed muscles back into action, but it was completely useless. Complete, overwhelming despair consumed her. She squeezed her eyes shut.

A second later, a chaotic commotion erupted beside her. The crushing weight on top of her instantly vanished, replaced by a pair of strong, warm arms frantically pulling her into a protective embrace. "Chloe... Chloe!"

Her head was spinning wildly, her consciousness rapidly slipping. Chloe couldn't hear a thing, driven entirely by sheer terror and instinctual fight. In her panic, her fingers brushed against a heavy rock on the ground. Pulling on every last ounce of her remaining willpower, she grabbed it and brought it down violently against the person holding her.

A dull thud followed. Warm, thick liquid splattered across the back of her hand.
