The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 215

"Fine. We can move it up if you want."

Chloe didn't waste another second. She turned and walked away.

She practically bumped into a nurse coming down the hall.

The nurse stopped her. "Excuse me, are you Mrs. Hayes?"

Chloe glanced at her, realizing it wasn't Nurse Brenda from the VIP ward.

"No, I'm not."

The nurse quickly apologized. "Oh, I didn't mean anything by it! It's just that my colleague has been talking about you and Mr. Hayes for days. She said there was something important she really needed to tell you both in person."

"It's just bad timing. She had a family emergency today and had to take sudden leave. Do you know when you'll be visiting again? I can leave her a message, or if you want to leave your number, that works too."

Chloe repeated, her tone flat. "I'm not her."

Without looking back, she continued down the hall.

The nurse stood there, entirely bewildered, before nervously shifting her gaze to the man standing behind her.

"Mr. H—"

The first word barely left her lips before she snapped her mouth shut in sheer terror.

The tall, imposing man stood under the harsh fluorescent lights, his striking features darkened into an expression of absolute lethality. The aura rolling off him was downright terrifying.

Preston stood completely still in the freezing draft, watching Chloe's figure slowly disappear at the end of the corridor.

...

As soon as Belle saw Chloe step out of the hospital, she rushed forward.

"God, you scared me! You're finally down. I tried to go up after you, but they wouldn't let me past the lobby!"

Ken, who had been waiting patiently by the curb, stepped forward.

"Mrs. Hayes, Ms. Evans, I'll take you home."

Belle groaned in frustration. "This guy is denser than a brick wall. I already told him we didn't need a ride, but he insisted on standing out here in the freezing cold."

Ken simply opened the car door.

Belle made a face at him, mimicking a robotic voice. "I said no thank you. Does your programming compute that?"

Chloe looked at Ken. "Thank you, but we'll manage. You should go upstairs and find Preston."

On the other end of the line, Eleonora's eyelid twitched violently, a sudden, dreadful premonition settling heavily over her chest.

The moment she ended the call with Chloe, she dialed Preston.

"Preston, did you and Chloe... get into another fight?"

"No, Grandma. Stop overthinking everything. We're perfectly fine."

Eleonora frowned deeply. "Don't lie to me."

Preston's tone turned careless and arrogant. "Do you honestly think Chloe is capable of leaving me?"

"Everyone throws tantrums. I completely understand, and I'm giving her space."

"She'll be fine once she cools off. I'm taking her abroad in a couple of days, and I'll find a way to make it up to her then."

Eleonora still felt incredibly uneasy. "I had a dream... I dreamed that Chloe packed up and left. I just have this awful feeling that something is terribly wrong with her lately..."

"Have you forgotten why I married her in the first place?" Preston cut in sharply.

He smoothed out his voice, turning it cold. "Grandma, dreams are always the exact opposite of reality. I have business to handle. I'm hanging up. Get some rest."
