The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 225

A snowflake landed squarely on Chloe's forehead.

It was freezing, biting cold.

She didn't stay to listen to the rest of the conversation inside. She turned and walked straight into the blowing snow.

A maid hurried out from under the eaves. "Mrs. Hayes, let me get you an umbrella!"

Inside the room, Preston's eyes suddenly darkened.

He quickly rushed outside, but the world was already blanketed in vast, blinding white snow. Chloe was nowhere to be seen.

"Was she outside this entire time?"

Preston asked the nearby maid, completely unaware of the panic bleeding into his tone.

The maid was visibly nervous but answered truthfully, "...Yes."

Preston stepped right out into the snow.

"Mr. Preston, your umbrella—"

A gust of freezing wind swept by, leaving the large umbrella resting uselessly on the veranda.

The maid looked helplessly toward Eleonora as she stepped outside, quickly rushing over to her. "Grandma, the wind is too strong. You need to go back inside."

Eleonora stared into the veil of snow where Preston's figure had quickly vanished, letting out a heavy sigh.

"Chloe... is leaving."

The maid blinked in surprise. "Mrs. Hayes? In this condition, where could she possibly go?"

Almost everyone naturally assumed that Chloe simply couldn't survive without Preston.

Eleonora merely shook her head and walked back inside without another word.

...

When Chloe found Belle, she was just about to dial her phone.

"What perfect timing. I was just about to call you..."

Belle was frantically throwing her things together as she spoke quickly.

"My team found some clues in Kandaria. I have to catch a flight tonight. I'm leaving right now."

"You should head back to the city, too, okay? I don't know why, but leaving you alone here makes me super anxious."

Over the past few days, Preston had completely shattered the image of the gentle upperclassman she once admired. Now, all that was left was an oppressive aura that frankly terrified her.

Chloe glanced down at her phone, then looked up. "What time is your flight?"

Belle replied, "In an hour. I ordered a private car. Thankfully the airport isn't far, so I should be able to make it if I rush."

"I'll go with you," Chloe said calmly.

"...Huh?" Belle froze, her head snapping up to stare at her.

"Mr. Preston, do you mean Mrs. Hayes and her friend?"

"They just left."

"Left? Where did they go?"

"I-I'm sorry, I have no idea..."

Preston suppressed his rising irritation and immediately dialed Ken's number. "Has she contacted you?"

"No, Mr. Hayes. I'm still waiting outside the research institute for Miss Cameron."

Only then did Preston remember that an hour ago, he had instructed Ken to pick up Jenna.

Hearing the silence on the line, Ken asked,

"Mr. Hayes, did something happen?"

"No."

What could possibly happen?

She was just mad and stormed off.

It wasn't exactly the first tantrum she had thrown recently, was it?

And not a single time had she actually been able to bear leaving him for real.
