The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 237

Belle exclaimed, "That's fantastic! I knew it! Jenna has definitely pulled off plenty of shady stunts! It's absolutely sickening!"

Without missing a beat, she blurted out, "Once her true colors are exposed to the world, Preston is going to look like a total idiot. He'll be drowning in regret, finally realizing how blind he was all along!"

Quentin, who had been resting with his eyes closed nearby, slowly fluttered his eyes open at those words.

Knowing Chloe as he did, he knew she wasn't the type to seek petty revenge.

If someone crossed her, she handled it immediately. She didn't believe in waiting for karma.

And she certainly wasn't one to recklessly throw herself into life-threatening situations like she had tonight.

Chloe curled her hands into tight fists, staring out the chopper window at the crescent moon. She finally spoke.

"I don't need Preston to feel sorry. I just want Jenna behind bars."

"Because she's an addict."

Quentin shifted his gaze to Chloe.

Under the pale moonlight, her profile was deathly pale, yet carved from pure, unyielding stone.

He knew exactly how deep her hatred ran for people involved in drugs!

"Chloe..."

When Chloe turned to face him, she had already meticulously smoothed her features into a faint smile.

"Quentin, I actually do need a favor."

She gestured slightly toward Thea.

Without her having to spell it out, Quentin caught her drift entirely. "Leave it to me."

He added, "Julian Sterling is a dangerous man. His hands are incredibly dirty. If you ever run into him again, you have to let me know."

"I know," Chloe agreed. "That's exactly why I'm cutting ties with Preston as soon as possible."

...

Once she was back at the hotel, Chloe took a hot shower and immediately crawled into bed.

She desperately needed sleep to recover from the crushing exhaustion in both her body and mind.

Suddenly, a sharp knock rattled her hotel room door.

Assuming it was Belle, Chloe got up and yanked the door open.

"Weren't you going to..."

The rest of the sentence died in her throat the instant she saw who was standing in the hallway.

She didn't hesitate for a second, violently shoving the door shut. But a heavy hand slammed flat against the doorframe, wedging it open.

Preston looked somewhat disheveled. His hair was messy, and a thin layer of sweat slicked his forehead.

His pitch-black eyes locked onto Chloe before he let out a short, cynical laugh.

"Chloe, do you really find this entertaining?"

"Do you even realize what day it is today? You vanished without a trace, you ignored my texts, and you sent my calls to voicemail. What exactly are you trying to achieve?"

"If you're so desperate for a divorce, why would you take off to Kandaria all by yourself on the exact day our agreement ends?"

Chloe was entirely unfazed. "A one-day extension. I'll pay the penalty fee as per our contract. The money will be in your account shortly."

Preston clenched his jaw, brutally suppressing his temper and forcing his voice into a softer register.

"Is this still about Jenna?"

"If you're feeling that insecure, I can draft up a new contract with you. I'll send her packing in a year, and you'll never have to see her face again. How does that sound?"

Seeing Chloe's bloodless complexion and the slight tremble in her long lashes, something in his chest softened. He took a step forward, reaching out to pull her into his arms.

"Chloe, does it really have to be this ugly between us?"

"I can resolve every single issue you've raised. If you're not happy, I'll fix it. We can do everything exactly the way you want it."

"Just stop being so emotional, okay?"

Drawing on some phantom reserve of strength, Chloe violently shoved him back.

"Get the hell out!"

Preston froze mid-step. When he finally looked up, his eyes were entirely devoid of warmth. "Calm yourself down. I'll come pick you up in the morning."
