The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 29

Quentin instructed his assistant to drive directly to the top public hospital in Sterling Bay, personally securing a VIP specialist appointment to examine her ear.

Chloe reflexively tried to decline. "You don't have to do this. I know my own condition perfectly well..."

"I need the full clinical picture," Quentin replied calmly. "It's standard procedure for your medical file when rejoining the interpreting division."

With that argument, Chloe couldn't protest. She quietly complied with the exams.

Even though she knew exactly what the outcome would be, waiting for the results still made her chest tight with an involuntary, lingering anxiety.

But reality was never swayed by her hopes.

Reading the medical report, Quentin's expression grew grim, a heavy crease forming between his brows.

Chloe offered a small, self-deprecating smile. "Why so serious? I still have one perfectly good ear, don't I?"

Quentin swallowed hard, his voice low but unshakable. "It's not the end of the world. If this hospital can't fix it, we'll find another. If no one in the country can do it, we'll go abroad."

"Okay," Chloe replied softly.

But deep down, she harbored absolutely zero hope.

During their first year of marriage, Preston had flown in top-tier otolaryngologists from all over the globe.

The second year, he had even dragged reclusive, legendary medical experts out of the mountains, forcing her to undergo endless, exhausting alternative therapies and experimental treatments.

By the third year, he stopped bringing it up altogether.

Chloe knew her hearing was permanently gone.

She thought she could finally leave after the ear exam, but Quentin quickly arranged for a comprehensive full-body checkup.

"Why do I need all this?" Chloe asked, confused. "I'm not sick..."

But the test results quickly proved her wrong.
