"Of course," Chloe said. "Why are you dawdling? Just tell me what's going on."
The car conveniently pulled up to the front of the villa.
Quentin stepped on the brakes but didn't immediately kill the engine. Instead, he turned to look at her.
His gaze was deep as he stared straight into Chloe's eyes.
"Chloe, what do you think of him?"
Confused, Chloe asked, "Who?"
"That Caucasian guy, Ethan," Quentin clarified.
Chloe frowned. "Why are you asking about that all of a sudden?"
"An architect, handsome, good personality, good background. What do you think of him?" Quentin pressed.
Chloe laughed. "He's just a passerby. Just smile and brush it off. It's not my place to judge him."
She paused and looked at Quentin. "Are you really upset because of this?"
Belle's remark about him being "jealous" suddenly popped into her head.
Chloe raised an eyebrow, probing half-jokingly.
"Quentin, are you seriously jealous?"
Quentin froze for a moment.
Chloe, however, was amused. Holding back a laugh, she continued, "Oh my god, whose jealousy are you feeling? Do you know Ethan? What? Not him? Then could it be me? You don't have a crush on me, do you?"
Quentin's gaze instantly darkened.
It was an enchanting night.
The streetlights outside the car window cast the shadows of the trees onto his shoulders, like a thin net.
Many things, once spoken, could never be hidden again.
He thought of those meaningful glances at the Sylvain dinner table—glances that made it seem as though he had betrayed something.
But he had never regretted it.
He opened his mouth, his throat tightening slightly.
Just then, Chloe suddenly burst out laughing.
"Alright, stop messing with me."
