The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 75

"What the hell are you talking about?" Jeremiah panicked, his bravado slipping. "How could you possibly get your hands on our internal documents? For all we know, you just printed out a bunch of fake papers to bluff us!"

He didn't actually know the intricate details of the proposal, but he knew exactly what kind of low-life his younger brother Gus was.

Quentin's tone was glacial. "I have zero interest in your pathetic, corrupt embezzlement scheme. What I am here to prosecute is your illegal seizure of private property and the blatant desecration of a gravesite."

Jeremiah let out a nervous scoff. "Who the hell do you think you are? You think you can prosecute me? Where's your proof? First of all, I didn't illegally seize anything—the homeowner signed a consent form, which makes this entirely legal! And second, there wasn't even a body in that box! It doesn't legally qualify as a grave!"

Quentin stepped forward. At over six foot two, his towering frame exuded a suffocating, predatory dominance. "A cenotaph is protected under the exact same legal statutes as a traditional burial site."

Jeremiah opened his mouth, completely stunned into silence.

Seizing the opening, Gabriel White stepped up beside Quentin. "Mr. Shaw, all the evidence has been fully documented and archived. Furthermore, given the suspect's status as a public official, once this hits the media, he'll be subject to maximum punitive damages. We're looking at a mandatory minimum of three years in federal prison."

"Prison?!"

It wasn't just Jeremiah—the rest of the hired crew stared in sheer terror. They thought they were just digging up a wooden box. Why were they suddenly talking about hard time?

"Y-you're just trying to scare us!" Jeremiah stammered, sweating profusely. "You don't get to just declare a prison sentence! Who the hell do you think you are?"

Gabriel flashed a polite, utterly lethal smile. "My apologies. I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Gabriel White, senior partner at Sterling Bay Legal. And you're right, I don't issue the sentences. Three years is just a conservative estimate. Once my team conducts a comprehensive audit of your tenure and inevitably uncovers your other corrupt activities, I'm sure the judge will be happy to tack on a few extra decades."

Someone in the crowd suddenly gasped. "I know him! I've seen him on the news! He's that famous superstar lawyer from the city!"

All the color drained from Jeremiah's face. He shrieked hysterically, "I have the signed consent form! This demolition was authorized! You have no grounds to sue me!"
