"Then get out of my way."
Chloe sidestepped her and walked straight into the house.
Wendy stared at her back, letting out a silent sneer.
She's just a useless trophy wife banking on her looks, Wendy thought. Once the boss gets bored of her, she'll be tossed aside like garbage.
Preston stepped into the house mere seconds later, his eyes immediately searching for Chloe.
Chloe watched him quietly, waiting for him to advocate for Jenna.
Instead, he stepped close and wrapped a gentle arm around her waist. "Chloe, I'm sorry. Did she scare you just now?"
Chloe paused, genuinely taken aback. "Your precious female friend is out there crying her eyes out. Aren't you going to stay and comfort her?"
Preston either missed the biting sarcasm in her tone or chose to ignore it. He pulled her closer.
"You're the one who was wronged. Why are you trying to speak up for someone else?"
"I promised I would give you justice, and I did. You are my wife. No one in this world is allowed to bully you."
Chloe arched an eyebrow but remained silent.
Right on cue, Ken called. There was a critical emergency at Vantage Corp.
After being absent for several days, Preston had a mountain of executive decisions that required his immediate presence.
"Chloe, I'll probably be pulling an all-nighter at the office. Get some rest."
"Alright. Make sure you set aside some time tomorrow."
Preston's expression stiffened for a fraction of a second. It was impossible to tell if he had genuinely forgotten or if he was intentionally avoiding the topic of the divorce.
"We... haven't really been on a proper date yet, have we?"
He looked at her, his gaze earnest. "Tomorrow, let's go watch the clouds from a park bench. We can ride bikes along the beach, feel the ocean breeze, and collect seashells. I'll string them into a necklace for you..."
