The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 93

Chloe had stayed up late packing, yet she woke up incredibly early.

She waited from seven in the morning until nine.

Preston hadn't returned, nor had he replied to her messages.

She called him several times to no avail, eventually dialing Ken instead.

"Mrs. Hayes." Ken's voice came through the line, laced with unmistakable caution.

Chloe cut straight to the chase. "Is Preston there?"

"Mr. Hayes... he's in a meeting."

Ken could physically feel the lethal glare boring into the side of his head. His palms began to sweat against the phone. "The backlog of documents from the past few days is massive. Mr. Hayes won't have any free time for the next few days."

He swallowed hard. "Was there something you needed? Should I pass on a message?"

Chloe understood that Preston was busy, but she absolutely refused to drag this out any longer.

"No matter how busy he is, he still has time to eat and use the restroom, right?"

"...I, uh, suppose so?"

"Then tell him to find a minute to check his messages. I've sent him the divorce agreement. Tell him to fill out the property division section according to our prenup. If everything is fine, print it out and sign it."

Ken's eyes went wide. He didn't dare respond, much less turn his head to look at Preston's face.

A suffocating silence stretched over the line.

"I'm waiting," Chloe's voice chimed in before she abruptly hung up.

The massive executive office was instantly plunged into a deathly stillness.

The cold marble floors reflected the dark, imposing silhouette of the man seated on the sofa. The atmospheric pressure in the room plummeted to terrifying depths.

After what felt like an eternity, Preston finally spoke.

"Leave us, Ken."

"...Yes, sir."

Though his mind was reeling, Ken kept his face perfectly neutral. He didn't dare ask questions as he spun around to make a hasty exit.
