The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 79

Lyra had always dreamed of landing a rich, handsome man like Yulen, but she only ever seemed to attract paunchy, middle-aged men like Victor. She was hoping to get some tips from Winona.

Winona knew Lyra had the wrong idea, but she didn’t feel like explaining. In Yulen’s eyes, was there really any difference between her and Lyra anymore? If he truly respected her, he wouldn’t have deceived her for so long.

She offered a faint smile. “We met at work.”

“Did you chase him, or did he chase you?” Lyra pressed.

Winona’s mind drifted back to their first meeting. She was a fresh graduate at the Locke Group, knowing only her department colleagues and her direct supervisor. She had no idea who the high-level executives were. They’d met in the elevator when she dropped a stack of papers at his feet. He helped her pick them up, and their eyes met as he stood. It was the first time she had ever seen such a handsome man. Flustered, she had blushed, mumbled her thanks, and run off. After that, she couldn’t understand why they kept running into each other so frequently.

Much later, after they were together, he confessed, “Winona, you’re so dense. If I didn’t like you, why would I have gone to such lengths to ‘accidentally’ run into you all the time?”

Back then, she had believed that kind of storybook romance could happen in real life. She never imagined fate had such a cruel plot twist in store for her.

When Lyra repeated her question, Winona simply replied, “I forget.”

Annoyed, Lyra assumed Winona was looking down on her and huffed, turning away.

Winona paid her no mind, lost in her own thoughts, until her phone vibrated. It was a text from Tallulah.

“Yulen’s with you, isn’t he?”

Winona read it, then deliberately snapped a photo of Yulen playing tennis and sent it to her.

Tallulah’s reply was instantaneous. “You’re pathetic, Winona. Is it fun clinging to another woman’s husband?”

Winona felt no need to be polite with Tallulah. “I’ll say it again: if you have the guts, why don’t you make Yulen admit you’re his wife in front of me?”

Victor laughed. “Mr. Locke, you can’t say a single sentence without mentioning your wife. You two are really something else!”

Yulen reflexively reached for Winona’s hand, but she pulled away. He froze, turning to see the cold, distant look on her face. He didn’t understand.

On the way back, Yulen tried to start a conversation, but Winona just leaned against the seat with her eyes closed, an invisible wall between them.

Yulen turned the music down. “Are you tired?”

Winona just grunted in response.

He didn’t speak again for the rest of the drive.

Once they were home, Yulen's phone rang. He excused himself and went into the study to take the call.
