While Daisy was momentarily distracted, Mrs. Hobbs' two friends seized the opportunity. They grabbed a heavy binder off the desk and smashed it viciously against Daisy's head.
Daisy collapsed, out cold.
Mrs. Hobbs straightened up, smoothing out her designer clothes. Ignoring the stunned whispers of the office staff, she sneered, "Acting like a cheap homewrecker. Disgusting!"
Up in his executive suite, Gabriel Goddard heard the commotion. He looked up at his assistant. "Do we know what that was about?"
"Word is that Ms. Falconer interfered in Mr. Hobbs' marriage and accepted large sums of money from him," the assistant reported.
Gabriel leaned back in his leather chair, waving a dismissive hand. "If it's personal drama, let it go. We don't need to get involved."
He figured that since Daisy had spent years as his brother Orion's mistress, wrecking marriages was probably just a habit for her. Getting roughed up by an angry wife was par for the course.
And even if there wasn't an affair, the fact that she took corporate kickbacks was undeniable.
He wasn't going to stick his neck out for her.
As long as Daisy hit her quarterly marketing targets and kept headquarters off his back, he couldn't care less about her personal scandals.
On his drive home that evening, Gabriel received a juicy piece of gossip: Mrs. Hobbs had taken the fight all the way to Uncle Orion's house. He chuckled to himself. Orion was going to be the laughingstock of their social circle.
He was looking forward to pouring himself a stiff drink when his phone rang. It was his assistant.
"Mr. Goddard, there's a major crisis. Mr. Hobbs' health drink brand was just hit with a massive whistleblower report. Regulatory authorities are already raiding their offices. Because we just signed the manufacturing contract with them, our factory is being locked down for a federal audit. What do we do?"
Gabriel's face drained of color.
"Daisy swore up and down that brand was clean! Why are they dragging our facilities into this? We haven't even fired up the production lines for them yet!"
"We don't know the specifics, sir, but you need to figure something out, fast!"
