Daisy was browsing the luxury baby section. When she spotted Winona, a smug, triumphant gleam lit up her eyes.
"Winona Jowett. I thought you had Stefan Goddard standing right behind you? What happened? He didn't throw money at this little problem to make it go away? Your precious lab is ruined. Doesn't that just eat you up inside?"
Winona ignored her completely, calmly pushing the stroller forward without breaking her stride.
Daisy mistook her silence for defeat and let out a disdainful smirk.
"I guess the great Winona Jowett isn't so untouchable after all."
Daisy was convinced that because Stefan hadn't stepped in to save the lab, he had abandoned Winona to focus on the Goddard Group's internal crisis. To her, Stefan was no different from any other ruthless corporate man—he weighed the pros and cons. When times were easy, he could play the devoted partner. But the moment his own empire was threatened, he dropped the woman and prioritized his business.
Winona took Audrey home.
The nanny had prepared a spread of fresh fruit and pastries.
Audrey sat at the dining table, happily munching on her snacks.
Winona unlocked her phone and saw several urgent texts from Karina.
The security footage of her argument with Margaret, along with fabricated rumors about her lab's plagiarism scandal, had been leaked online. However, the perpetrators hadn't paid for trending spots; it was a low-budget smear campaign, mostly confined to small troll accounts trying to drag her name through the mud.
Winona's expression remained perfectly serene as she locked her screen.
Noticing her mother was quiet, Audrey waddled over and wrapped her little arms around Winona's legs.
Winona smiled, scooping her up. "All done eating? Let's go wash those sticky hands."
After washing up, Audrey ran off to play with her toys.
