The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 890

Ansel forced a polite, patronizing smile. "Mr. Langley, Mr. Zeller, and Mr. Yeager have been working grueling hours on their projects lately. It's highly likely they all coincidentally took a well-deserved PTO day today, which is why they were unreachable. Let me have a quiet word with them. There's no need for you to get so aggressive and actually fire them."

Winona pulled up the company's HR portal on her monitor and turned it toward him. "If they are on PTO, why isn't there a formal request logged in the system? Or does HR at Cirrus operate on a 'verbal approval' basis without leaving a paper trail?"

Under her icy, unblinking stare, a cold sweat broke out across Ansel's back.

"N-no, it's not like that. Maybe there was a glitch with the software. Let me go back to my desk and fix it... but I am absolutely certain they submitted the proper paperwork."

Winona nodded slowly. "I see. However, I was under the impression that the enterprise HR software we use from headquarters is practically bulletproof. If our local system is experiencing data loss, I should probably escalate this to the Chief Technology Officer at HQ. We need to find out why they aren't properly supporting Cirrus's infrastructure."

Ansel trembled.

If Winona actually dragged the CTO into this, Ansel's head would be on a spike. The CTO would absolutely destroy him for trying to blame an enterprise system for his own shady cover-ups.

Self-preservation kicked in instantly. There was no way he was going down just to protect Langley, Zeller, and Yeager.

He straightened his posture, his tone shifting. "You know what? I might have misremembered. The system is fine. They probably just forgot to formally submit their time off. You're entirely right, Ms. Jowett. I'll go process their severance packages right now."

Winona nodded, her gaze never wavering. "I value efficiency, Mr. Archer. If this isn't finalized and processed by the end of the day, I will be forced to evaluate your position here as well."

Ansel looked at her, his previous arrogance entirely evaporated.

"Understood, Ms. Jowett. I'll have it done immediately."
