But Stefan's eyes remained glued to his documents. He didn't even acknowledge him.
A familiar resentment flared in Gabriel's chest.
He was still Stefan's father. No matter how busy the man was, he should at least have the decency to walk his father to the door.
What a cold-blooded, ungrateful son.
Once Gabriel was gone, Stefan picked up his desk phone and dialed his assistant. "Take over the crisis at Cirrus. First, terminate the contract with Mr. Hobbs immediately and pay the penalty fee. Second, escort the regulatory auditors through our manufacturing plants yourself. Expedite the clearance process."
"Yes, sir."
Stefan had billion-dollar acquisitions on his plate; he didn't have the bandwidth to micromanage Cirrus.
That night at home, Winona filled him in on the details.
"I orchestrated the whole thing. I tipped off Mrs. Hobbs and sent her after Daisy. My original goal was just to create enough of a scandal to force Daisy to resign so she couldn't use Cirrus as her personal ATM. I genuinely didn't expect Mr. Hobbs' company to get raided by the authorities so fast, let alone drag Cirrus into the crossfire."
Instead of being angry, Stefan looked at her with a quiet, thoughtful intensity.
Winona couldn't read his expression. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Winona," he said slowly, "would you be willing to take over at Cirrus for a while? My father couldn't handle the pressure and resigned today. I want you to step in as the Interim General Manager."
Winona blinked in surprise. "Me?"
Stefan nodded. "I know you'll do an incredible job."
Her lab was currently frozen by the investigation, and Stefan was drowning in work at headquarters. Running Cirrus would be the perfect opportunity to sharpen her executive management skills.
More importantly, they were partners. His empire was her empire. She wasn't going to sit back and watch Cirrus rot from the inside out.
"Okay. I'll do it."
