He seemed to have handled the situation backstage and now looked over in Danielle’s direction.
Their eyes met, and in that silent exchange, an unspoken understanding passed between them. Danielle saw determination and resolve in his gaze, while Alexander saw support and trust in hers.
Harold also noticed the activity. Holding his wine glass, he slowly walked over, his face still adorned with that gentle smile. “I saw you and Ms. Crawford having quite an engaging chat earlier, Mr. Davidson. What were you discussing?”
Danielle pulled her gaze away from Alexander and turned to Harold, offering a polite smile. “Nothing important, just reminiscing about old times.”
Harold’s eyes darted between Danielle and Alexander, as if trying to decipher something from their interaction. But he didn’t press further, simply smiling. “I see. The bidding ceremony will be resuming shortly. Ms. Crawford, you should probably return to your seat so you don’t miss anything important.”
“Thank you for the reminder, Mr. Chapman,” Danielle replied with a nod, saying no more.
Harold didn’t linger either, turning to walk toward the center of the hall.
Watching Harold’s retreating back, Gian leaned in and whispered to Danielle, “He definitely suspects something.”
“I know,” Danielle affirmed softly. “But he has no proof, so he won’t dare to make a reckless move.”
Alexander approached them, his voice calm as he said, “Everything backstage is handled. We’ve secured some leads on him. Now, we just need to be patient and wait to close the net.”
He lowered his gaze, his long lashes casting a faint shadow on his cheeks, his voice low and raspy. “Sorry.”
The apology came so unexpectedly that Danielle was taken aback, her fingers tightening around her water glass. His tone was stripped of its usual coldness and distance, replaced by a genuine softness.
Danielle looked at him, her gaze deep and searching. In the warmth of that apology, the resentment and hurt that had built up inside her quietly began to dissolve.
She gently shook her head and changed the subject. “What happened backstage?”
Alexander replied, “Harold’s men infiltrated the control room. According to our plan, they took the fake documents I had prepared. I let them go on purpose.”

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
