The bidding conference came to a close.
Representatives from the major corporations filed out, and the crowd in the conference hall gradually thinned until only the staff remained, cleaning up the venue.
Danielle Crawford was looking down, organizing her briefcase, when Gian’s voice sounded beside her, tinged with a subtle hesitation.
“Danielle, there’s something I need to tell you.”
Danielle looked up at him. “What is it, Gian?”
Gian’s gaze settled on her face, his expression complicated. “My family found out about us ‘dating.’ Even though we both know it’s not real, they’ve taken it seriously.”
Danielle’s hands froze, and the expression on her face stiffened.
She had never imagined that the lie they’d concocted to buy some time would ever reach his family’s ears.
A wave of guilt washed over her. “I’m so sorry, Gian,” she said quickly. “I didn’t mean to cause you this trouble.”
“It’s not your fault.” Gian shook his head, his tone gentle. “My family has been pressuring me to get married for a while now. At my age, you’re either being pushed to the altar or set up in an arranged marriage. They’ve been hoping I’d find a serious girlfriend for a long time.”
He paused before continuing, “When they heard I was finally ‘dating someone,’ the elders were thrilled. They haven’t stopped talking about wanting to meet you.”
Danielle fell silent.
She could understand Gian’s predicament and empathized with his family’s excitement, but the thought of a meeting built on a foundation of lies felt deeply wrong.
Seeing her troubled expression, Gian seemed to understand. His voice took on a tentative note. “I know it’s a lot to ask, but I was wondering if… you could help me out and just play along for a little while?”
“Just as a favor to me.”
“Of course I’ll help you,” Danielle said immediately.
“I understand your concerns,” he said in a low voice. “It’s okay, you don’t have to feel burdened by this.”
“We’d only have to keep it up for a short while, just until the attention dies down. I’ll figure out a way to explain everything to my family afterward.”
“If you really feel uncomfortable with it, then… don’t worry about it.”
His tone was calm, but it only made Danielle feel more guilty.
She knew Gian was willing to help her not just because of their business partnership, but more so out of friendship and trust.
And now, she couldn’t even help him with this one “small” favor.
“Gian, it’s not that I don’t want to help you,” Danielle explained hurriedly. “I just really don’t think it’s right to deceive your family.”

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
