Meanwhile.
Kirsten Delaney was curled up on the sofa in her apartment, scrolling idly through her phone. The moment a new trending search popped up, her thumb froze.
#Gian Atwood plays the hero, publicly claims to be single#
She clicked into the attached video. The glare of the crystal chandeliers was almost blinding. Gian stood tall and commanding in the center of the hall, shielding a woman in a white dress behind him, and coldly spitting out the words, "I don't have a wife," to some sleazy-looking man.
The camera zoomed in close enough to capture the absolute freeze in his eyes.
Kirsten let out a soft, self-deprecating laugh, the corners of her lips pulling into a bitter smile.
The comments online were blowing up. Some people were declaring that Gian was back on the market as a highly eligible bachelor.
Others were placing bets that the woman he was protecting was his new flame. It didn't take long for the internet sleuths to dig up her identity: Miss Gaylord, a piano teacher. The very same piano teacher who had come to the house to give Kirsten lessons not too long ago.
So that was it.
Kirsten tossed her phone onto the cushion and leaned her head back, staring up at the ceiling as her vision slowly blurred.
She had genuinely believed that even though their marriage was a sham, they were at least still friends.
But now?
A fake marriage had drained whatever goodwill was left between them. They couldn't even manage to be friends anymore.
Kirsten closed her eyes, a suffocating wave of despair pressing down on her chest until it ached.
Perhaps from the very beginning, Gian had only agreed to marry her out of obligation, a favor meant to appease the people around him.
He had never held any space for her in his heart. To him, this marriage was nothing more than a tedious chore he had to endure.
Now, with the divorce imminent and the mandatory cooling-off period still ticking away, he couldn't wait to tell the whole world he was single while openly protecting another woman at a public event.
This ending must be exactly what he wanted, wasn't it?
Kirsten chuckled softly at her own foolishness. She stood up, walked over to her closet, and pulled out a suitcase.
Kirsten crouched down, unzipped her suitcase, and started tossing her things in.
She folded her clothes meticulously, stacked her books one by one, and when it came to the trinkets that held too many memories, she hesitated for a second before ruthlessly shoving them into the corners of the bag.
Halfway through packing, her eyes landed on the drawer of her nightstand.
Inside was a photograph from a college road trip they had taken with a group of friends. She and Gian were standing side by side, her eyes crinkling with laughter, while his arm was slung casually over her shoulder. They looked impossibly close.
Her fingertips trembled slightly as she pulled the drawer open and picked up the photo.
The boy and girl in the picture had eyes full of pure, untainted joy. Back then, how could they have ever imagined things would end up this way?
Kirsten slipped the photo into her wallet, slammed the drawer shut, and went back to packing.
Her chest felt tight, a sharp, twisting ache gripping her heart, and her eyes stung.
She sniffled, swallowing the lump in her throat, refusing to let herself cry. She was just packing her things—it wasn't a big deal.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
