The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1378

Kirsten didn't wait for a response. She hung up and instantly blocked the number.

As the phone screen went black, the dam finally broke. She slid down the wall until she hit the floor, burying her face in her knees.

Lately, she had taken a massive step back from Ninesky, only drawing her monthly dividends. The amount wasn't small, but after covering rent, daily expenses, the piano, and her lessons, her savings had essentially dried up.

She refused to ever bow down to her family again, and she certainly wasn't going to crawl back to Gian. But the reality of living paycheck to paycheck was a suffocating weight she hadn't fully anticipated.

She sat there for a long time before finally pulling herself up. She walked over to her desk and opened her laptop.

Browsing through the endless rows of job listings, her fingers hovered over the mousepad in hesitation.

With her rock-solid legal background and extensive experience as a corporate counsel, finding a job wouldn't be hard. The problem was that she had grown accustomed to the flexible rhythm of working for Ninesky, enjoying a freedom she wouldn't easily find chained to a typical desk job.

But right now, survival had to take priority over pride.

Kirsten took a deep breath, tweaked her resume, and began firing off applications one by one.

The night dragged on. She sat hunched over her laptop until the early hours of the morning, finally dragging her exhausted body to bed.

What she didn't know was that the news of her submitting resumes had already reached Gian's ears.

When his assistant relayed the message, Gian was right in the middle of a board meeting. At the phrase "Ms. Delaney is applying for corporate counsel positions," his hand jerked, and his luxury pen left a dark, jagged ink stain across the crucial document in front of him.

The moment the meeting adjourned, he practically scrambled for his phone, scrolling to Kirsten's number.

He hesitated for a long time before finally pressing the call button.

It rang endlessly before she finally picked up.

Kirsten's voice was thick with sleep, edged with obvious irritation. "Hello?"

Gian's heart did a violent flip. The fingers gripping his phone trembled slightly, and he forced his voice to remain steady. "It's me."

Dead silence stretched over the line for a few seconds before her voice cut through, sharp and freezing. "What do you want?"

The aggressive distance in her tone felt like an ice pick driving straight into his chest.
