The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1377

She paused, her gaze shifting toward the distant streetlights. Her voice was as light as the night breeze. "Gian and I don't have anything to do with each other anymore."

With that, she turned away from Miss Gaylord and walked toward the approaching cab.

Miss Gaylord stood frozen on the sidewalk, watching Kirsten load her suitcase into the trunk and climb into the backseat. As the car drove off and vanished into the darkness, she let out a heavy sigh, her heart aching for the younger woman.

Upstairs in the apartment, Gian stood by the window, his eyes glued to the spot where the taxi had disappeared. The light in his eyes slowly dimmed.

He pressed a hand against his chest. It felt hollow, as if someone had reached in and ripped his heart out.

Down below, Miss Gaylord watched the cab leave, then quickly made her way back into the building.

When she pushed open the door to the apartment, Gian was still standing by the window. His broad back looked strong, yet undeniably lonely.

She slipped off her shoes, walking into the center of the living room, and spoke softly. "I shouldn't have come back with you today. I think Ms. Delaney completely misunderstood the situation."

Gian didn't turn around. He simply stared out into the pitch-black night, the cigarette between his fingers half-burnt. The ash fell silently onto the hardwood floor, but he didn't even seem to notice.

"Seeing us walk in together probably just made things worse for her," Miss Gaylord added with a sigh. "If you want, I can talk to her and clear things up. I'll tell her we're just old acquaintances and that you only gave me a ride home because you helped me at the gala tonight."

Gian finally turned around, crushing the cigarette into an ashtray. His eyes were heavy with exhaustion.

He looked at her, remaining silent for a long moment before speaking, his voice hoarse and laced with defeat. "There's no need."

He paused, his gaze drifting toward the bedroom Kirsten had just emptied. The door was still slightly ajar, as if her presence still lingered in the air.

"If she wants to draw a line in the sand, let her."

The words hung in the air, dripping with a helpless sense of surrender.

Gian knew full well that Kirsten was jumping to conclusions, and a part of him desperately wanted to explain. But he knew her personality too well. Once she made up her mind, nothing on earth could drag her back.

Seeing the quiet devastation in his eyes, Miss Gaylord understood there was nothing more to say.

She picked up her sheet music bag from the sofa. "I'll be going, then. Thank you again for tonight."
