Niki blinked, not shying away from the touch. Instead, her curious eyes drifted to Lorie’s slightly rounded belly.
Danielle rushed over. The sight sent an inexplicable, sharp ache through her heart. She could accept Niki seeing Alexander, even accept their father-daughter bond—blood was thicker than water, after all. But she couldn't stand seeing Niki being close to Lorie.
This woman, who was about to become Alexander’s wife and was carrying his child, was a thorn in her heart.
"Niki, come here." Danielle’s voice was tight with a tension she tried to hide as she held out her hand to her daughter.
Niki hesitated, looking from Danielle to Alexander. "Mommy, I want to play with Daddy a little longer," she said softly.
"We have to catch our flight to Nexus Prime. You can play with Daddy next time, okay?" Danielle coaxed, her patience wearing thin. She then turned her gaze to Lorie, her tone chilling. "Ms. Gaylord, please stay away from my daughter."
Lorie’s smile froze on her face. She awkwardly withdrew her hand and looked at Alexander, her eyes brimming with hurt.
Still holding Niki, Alexander looked at Danielle. "She means no harm, Danielle. She just likes children."
"I don't need her to like my child." Danielle stepped forward and took Niki from Alexander, holding her tightly. "Alexander, we've already made things clear. You have your life, and I have mine."
"Niki is my daughter, and I don't want her getting too close to people who have nothing to do with us."
"People who have nothing to do with you?" Lorie couldn't help but interject, her voice laced with pain. "I'm Alex's fiancée. Someday, I'll be Niki's…"
"That's enough," Alexander cut her off, his tone hardening. "Don't say any more."
He looked at Danielle, his expression conflicted. "I know you're upset, but Niki is my daughter, and our relationship…"
She knew she couldn't let her own feelings deprive her daughter of her father.
Alexander stood frozen, watching Danielle's back disappear into the crowd. A heavy feeling settled in his chest, making it hard to breathe.
Lorie tugged on his arm. "Alex, we should go too. The doctor said I shouldn't get too tired."
Alexander pulled his gaze away, the warmth in his eyes fading into an icy calm. He nodded and walked back to the candy store, but his earlier patience was gone. He grabbed a random bag of sour candies and handed them to Lorie. "Let's go."
Lorie looked at his cold profile, a sense of dread creeping into her heart. She knew Alexander still had feelings for Danielle. The tenderness he’d shown her moments ago had been an illusion.
This seemingly perfect marriage might have been a mistake from the very beginning.

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
