Abel replied, “There was no way to blame her. Illness and being beaten up are completely separate things.”

Abel continued, “But after that, there was a whole series of moves designed to drive a wedge between Miss Stella and the Reed family.”

Marie snorted. “The Reed family? Who even cares about them? That relationship was never worth anything to begin with.”

“Exactly. That’s Miss Stella’s attitude too. So afterward, both Ethan and Jonathan got beaten up. Pretty badly.”

Good. The worse, the better. If it hadn’t been bad enough, she’d have to go finish the job herself.

She’d actually been trying to clear her schedule lately to head back to Rivermount and deal a few more blows.

She declined the call immediately.

“If you are, tell your people to check if the neurologist is still on shift.”

“I really think you’ve got a serious brain issue.”

If his brain worked even slightly, there’s no way he’d say something this ridiculous.

Dan growled, “Marie!”

“Yell all you want. Go get your brain checked. You might even need to be committed.”

This man seriously had something wrong upstairs.

“Six months gone?” Marie echoed.

Abel nodded. “Yeah. We haven’t been able to pinpoint where he was during that time.”

There was speculation he’d gone to Mont City, but that turned out to be wrong.

So no one really knew where Dan had been during that half–year.

In any case, everything about how he ended up back in Marie’s life seemed suspicious.

Marie went silent.

Half a year… Disappearing right after leaving Falvaria?

She thought for a second and looked at Abel again. “What about his death?”
