He was dazed–utterly speechless.

Dad. The word itself felt foreign.

Ever since what had happened with the Tom family, Derrick hadn’t even said that word out loud in years; he could hardly imagine becoming one himself.

“If she’s pregnant,” Abraham said, “bring her back to Falvaria immediately.”

Marie had always been fiery and reckless, but no matter how strong a woman was, everything changed once there was a new life growing inside her.

“I just… can’t wrap my head around it,” Derrick admitted.

He really couldn’t.

Marie–pregnant with his child? Wait-“She still doesn’t even know what happened that night!”

Marie still believed the man that night had been Dan.

Abraham replied coolly, “Ninety percent chance.”

Derrick went silent. Ninety percent?

That was enough to make him dizzy. Part of him was anxious–but another part almost hoped it was true. Still… if it was true, how am I supposed to handle the fallout?

Just remembering how Marie had put Dan in the hospital for weeks made his head throb.

The smell of smoke hit her, and Marie felt sick to her stomach again.

And being trapped like this only made her more irritated.
