Penelope scoffed. Donald had given her a few properties. She hadn't wanted them at the time, but he had insisted, so she accepted. Honestly, she didn't care about them. If the Bishop family really wanted them back, she would gladly give them up.
Jonas asked a doctor to help them find a small conference room. When Penelope walked in, the Bishops were already seated on the opposite side, looking ready for a confrontation.
She thought to herself, Is all this really necessary for a few properties?
“Penelope, you always pretend to be so noble, but in the end, you’re just after our family's fortune! You deliberately got close to my dad and tricked him into giving you all his assets!” Yvonne said through gritted teeth.
Judy glared at Penelope. “I never knew you were so cunning. My husband didn't even mention a word of this to me!”
“Henry, draw up the contract immediately. Make her return everything she swindled from my son!” Hans slammed his hand on the table.
Henry looked troubled. “Mr. Bishop, your son transferred his assets to Ms. Laurier while he was of sound mind. It was his own wish, and I ask that you respect it.”
“You know who signs your paychecks! How dare you speak up for her!” Hans yelled at Henry.
Henry sighed. “Mr. Bishop, I am your son’s lawyer, not a beggar at your family’s mercy. And I’m not speaking up for anyone. I am simply conveying my client’s wishes.”
Unable to intimidate Henry, Hans turned his glare back to Penelope.
“You will return our family’s property immediately, or I’ll sue you!”
Penelope didn’t care about the properties, but if Hans was going to talk to her like that, she wasn't going to back down.
“Go ahead and sue. If the court orders me to return them, I will.”
Jonas, who had been listening in confusion, raised an objection.
“Even if my uncle transferred his shares to Ms. Laurier, wouldn't his wife have to consent for it to be valid? Otherwise, it’s void.”
Penelope knew a little about this and agreed that Judy’s consent should have been necessary.
At the mention of this, Judy burst into tears.
“Those shares were Mr. Bishop’s pre-marital assets, and he and Judy signed a prenuptial agreement. Furthermore, before gifting the shares to Ms. Laurier, he and Judy had already finalized their divorce proceedings. Therefore, the shares have nothing to do with Judy,” Henry explained.
“What?” Yvonne looked at her mother in shock. “You and Dad are divorced? When did that happen? Why didn’t you tell me?”
