"That's not true!" Hubert jumped up, crying foul. "A can of candy was missing, and Uncle told me to hand it over, but I really didn't steal it. He didn't believe me and searched our room, and he found it in his cabinet. Uncle thought he was being dishonest, so he spanked him too."
"You... you're horrible!"
Julian's face turned red with anger. He shot Hubert a glare and ran upstairs.
Penelope tapped Hubert on the head and told him to go to the living room to think about what he'd done, then went upstairs to find Julian.
Julian was sitting cross-legged on the bed, fuming. When he saw her, he turned his body away.
Penelope went over and hugged him. "You hid that can of candy for your brother, didn't you?"
Julian snorted. "Of course not. I don't want a whiny, unreasonable, and... annoying little brother!"
"Do you hate me too?" Penelope asked, looking at her son with guilt.
Julian lowered his head. "I don't hate you, but I'm angry with you."
"I'm sorry."
"I know. It was between me and Hubert, and you had to choose. You just chose him."
"I couldn't make a choice back then. I love you both and wanted to keep you both, but your father needed someone with him, so... I drew lots."
Julian looked at her in disbelief. "You drew lots?"
"Ahem, I know it sounds a little rash."
Julian was not satisfied with that explanation and turned his head away again, refusing to talk to her.
Penelope tried to console him for a while without success and decided to try again later. She had more pressing matters at hand.
"Julian, you have to tell me where your dad went."
"I'm not telling you."
"I'm begging you, please?"
Penelope gave her son a thumbs-up. When she looked down at Theodore's location, she saw he was in a well-known nightclub in Orenth. This...
"Where is Dad?" Julian leaned in to see.
Penelope quickly covered the screen. "He's... he's at the office. I'm going to go find him now."
"Oh."
After leaving the house, Penelope hesitated for a moment before driving to the nightclub. The lights inside were dim, and it took her a while to spot Theodore at the bar.
He was wearing a white shirt and dress pants, an outfit that already made him stand out, and on top of that, he was handsome. Women kept approaching him, but he ignored them all. That is, until a woman in a low-cut minidress with an impressive figure went over and handed him a drink. He glanced at her and actually accepted it.
Penelope had been about to approach him, but seeing that, she was filled with anger.
Has this been his private life for the past six years?
Going to nightclubs, messing around with different women?
