The Year I Was the Other Woman To Myself novel Chapter 635

The Bishop family held considerable standing in Orenth. Upon entering, Penelope saw the butler had been right—the cream of society was gathered there, and Hans was guiding Yvonne through the crowd, making introductions and toasting with guests.

For the past six years, Yvonne had been groomed as the heir apparent at the Bishop Group, and it was common knowledge that the company would eventually be hers.

This party served to solidify that expectation. This way, there would likely be no opposition at the shareholders' meeting in two days.

Just then, a massive, multi-tiered cake was wheeled into the center of the ballroom, and Hans led Yvonne to stand beside it.

“Actually, today is also my granddaughter's birthday!”

Everyone gathered around, offering Yvonne their well wishes.

Penelope froze for a moment. It dawned on her that today wasn't just Yvonne's birthday—it was hers, too. But clearly, the 'granddaughter' Hans referred to didn't include her. After all, she hadn't even received an invitation.

“In the blink of an eye, my darling granddaughter has become so capable. But in my eyes, she'll always be that little girl who followed me around, whispering softly how much she loved her grandpa.”

Hans gazed at Yvonne with immense affection, recounting numerous stories from her childhood, remembering even the smallest details with perfect clarity.

“As you all know, she’s the apple of my eye, and she has never failed to meet my expectations. Her achievements at the Bishop Group over the past six years speak for themselves. I am incredibly proud, and I can finally entrust the Bishop Group to her with confidence.”

Hans then took a deep breath and addressed the crowd again.

“You've probably all heard that my eldest son was in a car accident and is in critical condition. We are hosting this party with heavy hearts, and I hope that in the future, you will all do me the honor of looking after my granddaughter.”

Hans pressed his palms together and gave a slight bow to the crowd.

Yvonne quickly took his arm, her eyes red. “Grandpa, I won't let you down!”

“Good girl. I know you have it in you. I have complete faith in you!”

“What are you doing here?”

Penelope chuckled. “It's my birthday, too.”

“You're not welcome in our home!”

“Whether I'm welcome or not isn't your call to make.”

Hans had only just noticed Penelope. Realizing she was there to cause trouble, he roared, “She may not have a say, but I do! Get out of here right now!”

Penelope clicked her tongue. “I'm not so sure you have a say, either.”

Penelope turned back to Yvonne. “There are still a few left. Aren't you going to blow them out?”
