The Year I Was the Other Woman To Myself novel Chapter 697

Michael had sorted things out for them and driven them home.

After Penelope got out of the car, Theodore remained inside and asked Michael to go for a drink with him.

Penelope frowned, about to say something, but Michael waved her off.

"Don't worry. If he wants to drink, I'll join him. I'll make sure he's safe."

Penelope knew Theodore still hadn't gotten over his hurdles and needed a release, so she didn't stop them. After watching the two drive away, she called Mr. Stapleton Sr.

Having finally claimed the chairman's seat at Zenith Group, Marico couldn't help but spin around in the chair a couple of times. So this was what it felt like to control a business empire, like sitting on a king's throne, looking down on everyone.

He had thought it would take some time to earn his grandfather's approval and enter this office after Theodore left Zenith Group. Instead, his grandfather had summoned him to the study that morning and, without a single wasted word, handed him the position.

"I told you, you are the rightful heir of the Stapleton family. Mr. Stapleton Sr. must have finally figured that out. But this is just the first step. To take full control of Zenith Group, you have a lot of work to do, and you need to deliver results to earn everyone's respect," Yvonne said.

At that moment, she also wore the expression of a victor. Marico had defeated Theodore, and she felt she had defeated Penelope.

Marico turned to Yvonne, his smile turning cold the moment he saw her.

"Why are you still here?"

Yvonne paused for a moment. "What do you mean?"

"I mean... get out!"

Yvonne's eyes widened at his words.

"You're telling me to get out? Have you forgotten that I'm the one who put you in this chair? Are you just going to discard me now that you've gotten what you want?"

"I think you're the one who's forgotten."

She gasped for air, staring at Marico in disbelief. This man who turned on his allies in an instant—no, he was scum, a degenerate. All that talk about family was bullshit; he had just been using her.

"Die or get out. Pick one," Marico asked mockingly.

Yvonne gritted her teeth in hatred, but she knew Marico wasn't just ruthless, he was vicious. There was nothing more for her to gain from him. Though unwilling, she got to her feet and walked toward the door.

"Marico, you'll get what's coming to you!"

Marico scoffed. "If bad people always got what they deserved, you wouldn't be getting away either."

Donald was now able to get out of bed, and Penelope often visited him at the hospital. That afternoon, she came by to take him for a walk downstairs for some fresh air.

"Yesterday, your grandfather came to the hospital to discuss something with me. He wants you to join the Bishop Group. You should understand what he means."

Of course, Penelope understood. It was about her taking over the Bishop Group as its heir, but she had already explicitly refused.
