"I have no interest in that," she said bluntly.
"I respect your decision, but..."
"But what?"
"Your grandfather is getting old, I've never been involved in the company, and your uncle's abilities are limited. His two children are hopeless cases. We can't let the vast Bishop empire go without an heir."
"You want me to take over the Bishop Group?"
"Yes, I do."
Penelope frowned. She truly didn't have the desire, but she couldn't bring herself to refuse Donald outright. He had been completely unaware of what happened in the past, so she couldn't harbor any hatred toward him. Over the past few years, he had tried hard to make up for his absence and fulfill his duties as a father. She could feel his efforts and had come to accept him.
"Let me think about it, okay?"
"Of course. I won't force you."
Penelope nodded. She still had no intention of taking over the Bishop Group, but she would certainly lend her full support if it ever ran into trouble.
As they walked and talked, Penelope thought about the events of the past few days. After some hesitation, she asked, "Dad, have you seen Yvonne recently?"
"Her?" Donald frowned. "Isn't she abroad?"
"I thought I saw her."
"That's impossible. But whether she's here or not, I'm done with her. She broke my heart, plotting with her mother to kill me and her grandfather."
Just the mention of Yvonne made Donald tremble with anger.
Seeing his reaction, she was sure he hadn't seen Yvonne.
"Perhaps I was mistaken. It must have been someone else."
After taking Donald back to his room, Penelope was about to leave when she received a call from an unknown number.
"Do you have any idea how much trouble I went through to get your number?"
Penelope paused for a second. "Marico?"
"If you don't get to the point, I'm hanging up."
"Yvonne was the one who found Dominic. It was her idea. I kicked her out. If you want revenge for Theodore, you'll have to figure it out yourself."
At these words, Penelope stopped in her tracks.
So she hadn't been mistaken. The person at the Zenith Group gala was Yvonne, and this dirty trick was also her doing.
"Since you're in Theodore's chair now, you should manage Zenith Group well. I'm sure Theodore would be happy to see you lead it to new heights." With that, Penelope hung up.
Just before the line went dead, she heard Marico say, "Anything he can do, I can do better."
Leaving the hospital building, Penelope thought for a moment and decided not to leave just yet. Instead, she found a secluded spot to hide.
Having been used and then discarded by Marico, Yvonne would surely not give up. She would definitely try to make a comeback, and her only path was to return to the Bishop family.
She might come to the hospital to find Donald.
Penelope decided to lie in wait, but she was surprised by how quickly her target appeared. When Yvonne showed up, she was a mess, even limping slightly.
