The wind howled through the window at the end of the hallway, a freezing draft that made her shiver.

Right now, she was wrapped in a warm embrace. Her body was intimately familiar with his body heat, her senses knew his scent, and deep down, she harbored an agonizingly intense longing for him.

But her rational mind knew that a quick rip of the band-aid was better than prolonged agony.

She pushed him away. Caught in the freezing draft, she shuddered violently, her voice breaking in the wind. "The holidays are coming up, and Grandma will probably head to the manor soon. She won't be at Sycamore Quays. Just let me have some quiet time to think."

She was exhausted, body and soul. She just wanted to get rid of him as quickly as possible.

After a long, suffocating silence, he finally replied smoothly, "Fine. I had Zeke send you the address for your meeting with the doctor tomorrow."

He looked down at her knees again. "I'll have Faye come over to take care of you tomorrow."

Her eyes immediately flashed with suspicion. "No need. I can take care of myself. Nancy hired a maid, and she'll be here tomorrow."

She only said that to stop him from sending a maid to spy on her. Nancy was incredibly cautious and wouldn't accept anyone she didn't personally vet into her home.

Hearing Nancy's name, Hassan frowned imperceptibly, his voice going deep. "If you don't want to go back to Sycamore Quays, you can stay at the Imperial Villa."

The Imperial Villa was their matrimonial home, entirely staffed by Hassan's people.

He just wanted to keep her trapped under his thumb.

Natalie was just about to refuse when the man took a step closer, casting an even darker shadow over her. Her flat gaze met the exquisite buttons on his shirt.

"If you don't want to move, then Faye comes over. Pick one." His tone brooked zero argument.

In the past, whenever this happened, Natalie would just obey. He would give her options, she would pick one, and he would take full control over the consequences.

"I'm not picking," Natalie stared at him, pronouncing every word with deliberate finality.
