Natalie stared right back at her, let out a sharp laugh, and walked over to stand inches from her face. "This is my house. I should be the one asking why the hell you are here."
Gardenia ground her teeth, her expression fiercely defiant. "It won't be your house for much longer, will it?"
"Even if it isn't mine tomorrow, it is still mine today. You have absolutely no right to interrogate me in my own home, Gardenia."
Hassan stepped out of the room right behind Natalie. "Why are you here?"
The question was aimed at Gardenia. Instantly, her face flushed crimson.
Wasn't he just helping Natalie shut her down? Was Hassan truly clueless, or was he doing this on purpose?
Gardenia lowered her eyes. "I missed Adrian. I just wanted to come see him."
She desperately tried to soothe her bruised ego with the reminder that Hassan and Natalie were divorcing soon. She just had to endure this humiliation a little bit longer.
After making her excuse, Gardenia looked pointedly at Natalie, the 'get out' message flashing brightly in her eyes.
Natalie had originally intended to leave immediately, but being glared at like an intruder in her own home triggered a fierce wave of rebellion. She held Gardenia's gaze and said coolly, "Well, you've seen him. You can leave now."
Gardenia's brow furrowed, and she immediately looked to Hassan, clearly waiting for him to back her up.
Hassan's voice was completely flat. "Is there something else you needed?"
Gardenia tightened her lips and shot a venomous look at Natalie. "Is she staying?"
Hassan frowned. "She is still my wife. If she doesn't stay, who will?"
If she didn't have her own hidden agenda for the night, Gardenia would have turned around and stormed out. Staying any longer was pure humiliation.
She took several deep breaths just to swallow down the sheer indignity bubbling in her chest.
Natalie had been on the receiving end of that hostile glare more times than she could count. In the past, Gardenia had at least tried to mask it. Now, she wasn't even bothering to hide it. The sheer venom in her eyes was completely brazen.
