The car slowly came to a halt. He turned to look at Natalie. "What did you just say?"
Natalie couldn't understand why he was suddenly acting so weird. "I'm texting my friend. What's wrong with you?"
Kyle's eyelashes fluttered, his expression turning somewhat bewildered. By the time he looked back at her, his eyes were bloodshot. "Isn't your best friend Coralie Chadwick?"
His voice shook noticeably as he spoke.
Natalie was caught off guard, offering a faint smile. "We're not as close as we used to be, but we're still friends."
Kyle lowered his gaze. "True. People are dead. How are you supposed to maintain a relationship?"
Nowadays, how many people even still remembered her?
"What did you say?"
Natalie froze, her expression turning icy. "What kind of joke is that? It's not funny, and I don't appreciate it."
Kyle looked at her. "Joke? Don't tell me you really didn't know she died?"
Natalie's lips trembled. "How... how is that possible? What are you talking about? I was just messaging her..."
Kyle furrowed his brows. "Messaging who?"
Natalie pulled up her phone, opening her chat log with Coralie.
"Look." Her mind was a total mess.
Kyle was equally confused. He pulled out his own phone.
Even though Coralie had been dead for a long time, he couldn't bear to delete anything connected to her. When he opened her profile, the profile pictures on both phones were identical.
Yet, when Kyle took Natalie's phone and clicked into the account's details page to compare them, he found the truth. "The messaging IDs are completely different. Someone's been impersonating Coralie and talking to you this whole time."
Natalie's mind went completely blank. "Impersonating?"
Kyle's tone grew sharp. "Why else do you think Mr. Chadwick suddenly changed careers? Because the cause of his daughter's death is still a mystery! An eighteen-year-old girl went abroad, and the next time anyone saw her, she was a corpse."
