The man stared straight at her. "What about you?"
She paused. "I dropped him off and came back. Faye said a fresh batch of crab arrived, so I ate."
Faye was clearing the table, smiling as she said, "Mr. Carlson doesn't usually like these, but he's been asking us to buy them often lately. He was just waiting for you to come back."
Hassan didn't deny it. His ink-dark eyes, catching the light, looked at her even more brightly.
She avoided his gaze, her voice very light. "Is that so."
"It's late. Should I have someone run a bath for you?" he asked for her opinion.
She glanced at her phone. "It is late. We took quite a long time eating."
She didn't refuse what he just said. Hassan instructed the maid, "Run a bath for Mrs. Carlson."
She got up and went into the master bedroom, the man following closely behind. The maid went into the bathroom to fill the tub with hot water and then left. As soon as the door closed, Hassan hugged her from behind, his jaw resting gently on her shoulder.
Natalie didn't push him away. A layer of depth appeared in his eyes, but he held her without letting go.
He closed his eyes, almost as if he had fallen asleep.
Natalie patted his hand. "Let go, I need to take a bath."
Hassan hugged her tighter. "Just a little longer."
Natalie's fingers were still tucked in her pocket, rubbing her phone. She spoke softly, "It's so late, aren't you tired?"
His eyelashes fluttered slightly. When he spoke, his voice was slightly hoarse, "I am."
He suddenly turned his cheek, his lips kissing the side of her neck, murmuring low, "Natalie."
When he was being sweet and affectionate, Natalie simply couldn't resist—but that was only in the past.
She didn't say much, nor did she hug him back, kiss him, or comfort him as she used to.
