As she spoke, she made sure to leave the speakerphone on, pointing the device toward Natalie. A man’s crisp voice resonated through the speaker. "Okay."
With a single word, he had agreed.
Joelle looked at Natalie, a triumphant, confident smile curling her lips.
But the victory was short-lived. A moment later, the voice on the other end added, "I'll have my assistant head over. He'll take care of everything for you."
Joelle faltered. "Are you really busy right now?"
Hassan replied with cool detachment, "I'm a married man. It's not appropriate for me to be alone with you."
Joelle was stunned. She hadn't expected him to be so brutally direct.
Because Hassan had no idea Natalie was standing right there, these were undeniably his true thoughts.
Lowering her eyelashes, Joelle pressed on. "It's different with us. Natalie and I even used to play together when we were kids."
"We grew up, we didn't get amnesia. If I recall correctly, you and Natalie were never on good terms," he stated dryly, merely pointing out a fact.
Joelle’s face turned completely black.
He had never openly called her out like this before.
She could tell he was in a terrible mood; his words lacked even a shred of his usual polite filter.
She had no idea what could have possibly provoked a man as composed as Hassan into being this emotionally volatile.
Refusing to accept defeat, especially after making that bet with Natalie, she was determined to get him there, no matter what it took.
She quickly added, "Natalie is actually right here. I accidentally rear-ended her car."
