Natalie's fingers twitched, instinctively trying to pull her hand back, but his grip only tightened.
His voice was steady and commanding. "Are you misunderstanding the situation here, Rhea?"
Rhea froze, not quite grasping his meaning.
"This isn't a personal grudge between you and Natalie. This concerns the entire Carlson family. Are you still trying to hide things?"
"What do you mean, the entire Carlson family..." Rhea was still entirely bewildered.
Just then, Zeke walked in from outside. "The internet is blowing up right now. Rumors are spreading that the Carlson family is involved in a murder, and the PR team can't suppress the backlash."
Zeke walked up to Hassan. "We've contacted several major media conglomerates and tried our best to shut it down, but too many people are speaking out. Combined with the roadblock last night going viral, the internet is painting the Carlsons as actual monsters. People are saying we kill at will and dabble in dark magic to maintain our wealth."
Natalie stood off to the side, completely stunned.
She looked up at Hassan, quietly wondering how he had managed to escalate the situation this quickly.
Given the power of the Carlson PR machine, any minor scandal could be instantly squashed.
For it to spiral this wildly, someone must have deliberately hired PR bots to stoke the flames.
But who would dare go against the Carlsons like this?
Cecily furrowed her brow. "Is the PR department completely useless?"
Zeke kept his head bowed. "With the current speed of the spread, it's too late to suppress it. The best course of action is to prove our innocence immediately. The PR department is doing everything they can, but it's not enough."
Hassan looked at Rhea. "Right now, the only thing that works is proving our innocence. Everyone just needs to submit to a police search and interrogation, with everything recorded by an official scribe. Once the facts are posted online, the rumors will collapse on their own."
Rhea hadn't anticipated this twist, but thankfully, she had meticulously scrubbed her own tracks. She had dared to tell Natalie to investigate her precisely because she knew Natalie would find nothing.
"Fine. Since it affects the family, I obviously won't hold a grudge against a junior. Search away. Do whatever you want," Rhea agreed magnanimously.
