Augustus shot her a look. "You still aren't leaving?"
Natalie stood next to Hassan and looked at Augustus. "Why are you only keeping him behind?"
"Hmph." Augustus glared at her. "If you've guessed it, I have no reason to tell you. If you haven't, I certainly won't broadcast the idiotic things this fool has done!"
Hassan hid his moves well. The rest of the family might not grasp the depth of his network, assuming his grip on the Carlson empire was purely because Augustus had handed him the reins. But Augustus knew perfectly well that the directors of the country's major media conglomerates were closely aligned with Hassan.
Failing to exert influence at a critical moment like this? Augustus didn't buy it for a second.
Hassan lowered his eyes, his gaze flicking toward Natalie. "Get out."
Natalie lowered her head, biting her lip. The veins on her clenched hands were visible as she reached out and grabbed his wrist. "You..."
Her voice trembled, but she finally forced out the question burning in her heart. "Why."
Hassan frowned. With chilling indifference, he shoved her hand away. "There is no why. Get out."
The force of his push was brutal, devoid of any mercy, and Natalie nearly tripped.
Perhaps he had his own plans.
She turned and walked out.
She never thought she would still harbor these kinds of expectations for him at a time like this.
It felt like a betrayal to herself.
Why had she stayed behind just to let him humiliate her?
Her chest heaved as she bit the inside of her lip, refusing to think about his motives anymore.
Cyrus walked up to her and offered a handkerchief.
Natalie froze for a moment, raising a hand to her cheek, only to realize she was crying.
Why?
She couldn't even understand the reason herself.
"Thank you, but no." She wiped the moisture from the corner of her eye with the back of her hand.
Cyrus was Rhea's son. Natalie was no saint; she had grown up adopting a guilt-by-association mindset.
If she hated someone, she hated everyone associated with them.
It was a deeply childish and stubborn trait.
Hassan had scolded her for it countless times, but she had never fully managed to shake it.
