Hassan went straight back to Sycamore Quays after finishing his business.

Seeing the figure inside the house, he almost thought he was dreaming.

He stared for a few seconds longer. That familiar, slender silhouette was still sitting on the sofa.

She was wearing a bare-pink silk dress suit, the crisp sleeves rolled up to her elbows, revealing her luminous forearms.

Faye set a fruit platter on the coffee table. "Mrs. Carlson, try some. They were just delivered today, completely fresh."

Natalie gave a slight nod. A few strands of her low ponytail cascaded over her chest, the loose hairs at her temples swaying softly with her movements.

When the still figure finally moved, it broke his trance, and he stepped into the room.

"You're looking for me?" he asked casually.

He had hit the mark. Natalie stared at him and slowly stood up.

She hadn't touched the fruit Faye brought over. She was only here for one reason.

"You knew about Lyndon all along, didn't you?" Her accusation hit the air before anything else.

Hassan's expression remained neutral as he sat on the adjacent sofa. "Finn told you?"

"So you knew everything, yet you pretended to be so magnanimous, handing me a business card and telling me to investigate it myself?"

His tone was entirely natural. "If I had told you directly, would you have believed me? Would you have believed that it was your grandfather who wanted to protect him?"

Natalie fell silent, considering what he had just said.

If he had blurted it out, it would indeed have been very hard for her to believe.

"You wouldn't have believed me, but you believed Finn." A self-deprecating smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.

"Do you not know why I don't trust you? After repeatedly hurting me, am I still supposed to believe you?" Natalie opened her purse and pulled out a small box.
